New TV show bullwhips

Post by Robert Duke »

Here is a pair of 6 foot 12 plait bullwhips that I just finished and sent to Hollywood this week. It will be for a girl superhero. Imagine that. I don't have many more details than that.

Robert,

A very nice job on the whips, man - that's a right purdy pair indeed. My only question: Can you post full pics of the whips? I dunno about anyone else on here, but I'd certainly like a full view of them....

Also, I know this is an odd question, but you mentioned in some post last month that a stage production of "Phantom of the Opera" had contacted you about a whip. Did anything ever become of that? Just curious....

High Regards,
-Chris

Hello Chris,
I sure don't have full photos of the whips. I wanted to show mostly detail around the handles and upper part of the whips.

It was a London production co. for Phantom of the Opera. Never heard anymore... they sent me a picture and it looked like rubbish... just total trash... typical stage prop.. pure junk

Robert,

Not a problem about the pics - merely thought I'd ask.

Too bad about the Phantom production - it would have been nice to see such a great show with a proper whip....

Robert, very nice looking whips. You know I remember someone on one of the yahoo whip or WWAC groups a while back saying she was trying out for some new super hero show Stan Lee and the Sci-Fi Channel was doing. Said she would be cracking whips, I wonder if that has any connection to the show you made those two for. In any case congratulations, I’ll have to keep an eye out for that show but if you happen to hear anything more let us know.

Dan

P.S. hope you took good notes on those two whips cause if that show takes off, you’ll probably have people beating down your door for exact copies! 8)

Hello Dan,

I am not sure, but I think the show is going to be on an adult network... cable users have On Demand shows and I think thats what its going to be. Most of the world's views on whips is a bit on the far side as you probably are aware of.. so they take advantage of it when they can... the way Indy used the whip instills a lot of adventure that is clean and very heroic. There's always going to be a dark side. Let's just hope for more good guys using whips. You think? :whip:

Actually Dan may be right. I think it's SciFi. They're doing a show later this summer called "So who wants to be a superhero" (or something along those lines.)
It's another in the long, tired of line of reality tv slock shows.

Probably just coincidence then, either way still very exciting.

Yeah, I try not to be too judgmental of the dark side of whip cracking as its out there and to each there own, but either way it should be interesting to see what comes to light with both these projects and how they utilize the whip work.

Found out a little more information on the whip Tonya/Creature is using for "Who wants to be a super hero". Jim J is right, It’s a black and pink 6ft nylon bullwhip made by Rhett Kelley. She is also a strict vegan so it’s probably safe to say that the pair of kangaroo hide whips Robert made are most likely for a different film or show as he thought.
