A Plead for the Pleat!

Post by 3thoubucks »

Image My 3 sizes too big Deluxe Fed looking better today. -Because I Pumped-up the Pleat! The Pleat cinches the base of the crown, so I can use less stuffing in the sweat. It also makes the brim snap down further. Look what it does to the brim without being worn- Image ....The pleat IS extreme! - Image Notice the the dome shaped gap to the right (Ford's) of Fords's right eye (his hat is loose, because it's hairline high) This gap is caused by the pleat- Image The pleat is the cause- Image It's hard to make a pleat. I use a metal clip while I sew!-Image

That is one cool side profile!!!! You know, no matter how farfetched some of your theories sound, you always back it up with some incredible photos. I always look forward to you research..keep it up!

I'll hand it to ya, $3K, you certainly keep things interesting! Your attention to detail is second to none, and although you seem unwilling to take credit for introducing the 'turn theory', i'm sure many, many of us still grant it to you (myself included). I like that your quest for the definitive Raiders hat has lead you to pursue the detail of the channel in the right dent, and that you're willing to do the ol' cinch n' stitch to achieve it. I wouldn't necesarily go to all that trouble but I appreciate your eye nonetheless. Some of us are just lucky that our bashing skills somehow create that channel. I refer to Erri_wan's latest AB! I dunno how he did it! :D

That side shot is incredible. I always thought the only way to get that reverse taper was to have a larger hat, and a tighter fit around the brim. Makes sense.

The brim swoop is different and the pleat is too tight.

Different camera angle. You can almost see Ford's left eye lash.
