A beautiful HJ -now updated with pics!

Post by Indiana Cromeens »

Just wanted everyone to know that todd got some tall crowned poets back in stock, he exchanged my short crowned poet for me and the new one arrived last week, It is the finest HJ I've ever owned a picture perfect LC lid. perfect pinch and that swoop to the brim I.E. venice, It looks straight like it jumped off screen and into my hands. todd did an amazing style job and his customer service is always top-notch I'll post pictures soon, my digi-cam is sucking big time right now. Great job todd, thanks for my hat, now I have the best of both worlds, an amazing HJ, and an amazing AB. life is good

The front of that hat looks too high. The best way to judge how the hat looks is for you to be wearing it.

Indeed very crusadish :D I would love to see one of those hats open crown. I agree with rick (as usual! :P ), the front looks rather high. You might bash it a bit lower if you like, anyway we need pics of you wearing it to give the ultimate opinion
Very nice hat in my opinion

As much as the new HJ's get knocked on here that's a good looking hat. Of course you've got the best of both worlds though and own an AB too.

If the price on these hats wasn't so steep and close to what you'd pay for an AB I would consider owning one for "lite adventuring" or suits.

Great pics. :)

 I like it. The hat seems very straight sided, I think if the pinch were a little tighter, it would be a great Raiders hat, too!

Great looking hat! That first shot really captures the color, a lot better than my friend's camera did... I looked up at mine and it does have that nice high crown, but yours does seem a tad higher... Not enough for me to complain though. Otherwise it looks just like the one I got from Todd, except I got the tighter front pinch. It was a real treat when it arrived.

Mmmmm... Soft... And still has that new HJ smell...

Congrats and enjoy!!

Looks good. Is this the same real soft felt that Todd has been selling? I really liked the softness and color of the one that I got from him last year. Fedora

yeah its a very soft felt(like all other herbert johnsonsI've ever come across) It really is a pretty hat, though no where near the quality of your AB's, its just nice to have the best of both worlds, the "movie" hat and the best hat known to man, the crusade AB you made me still is number 1 in my book though

Forgive my ignorance but... who is Todd? How does one connect with him? And how expensive IS a new HJ, anyway?

todd's costumes, he sells indy shirts, holsters, bag and straps, belts, gloves, and HJ fedoras at a great price(for a hebert johnson anyways) they're only $239, they usualy cost $300 plus. check out his website www.toddscostumes.com

Thanks Cromeens! Oh, by the way... do HJ's run a little big, or are the sizes pretty spot-on?

thats hard for me to say, the size seems spot on, its just the sweatband is very thin, an AB just adheres to your head perfect, comfortable yet snug. a herbert johnson fits well but is not has comfortable has an AB. its still very comfortable and fitting if you ask me( I know many are going to shoot me down for this)

I know personaly how a custom hat feels, although not an AB (yet). Nothing beats it. But I have a second hand... actually third hand... HJ that makes me want a new one with the higher crown you mentioned at the start of the thread. The sweat has lots of ripples that might indicate shrinking (I'm guessing), but it wears a little large. I thought that it might be stretched or relaxed from it's previous use.
It's always hard for me to pick a size because I'm right in the middle!
