Hello all,
I don't post here too often, mostly I'm on the Fedora Lounge. I just had to chime in with another testament to Fedora's prowess at hat making.
I contacted Steve to have him make me an AB, as I couldn't find a tall-crowned, beaver hat that wasn't vintage in my size. I live close to the HJ shope here in London, and I was less than impressed with their Indy hats, and even less so with their price! I had two non-Indy HJs in the past, and found that they tapered quickly and didn't have the look that I was after.
Steve was super helpful during the whole process. He explained to me various points of hat making, pros and cons of different felt and the various options available for the hat I ordered.
At first I requested a standard AB beaver body, with the HJ ribbon, my intials in the sweat, with an open crown. However, after perusing the forum here and seeing some superb creations (especially Kaleponi Craig's hat) I decided to have Steve give it a "Venice Pier" block.
When it arrived, I was amazed at the quality and feel of the felt. I have several '40s Stetsons and a Borsalino, and this is a smoother felt. It is almost like velvet. The colour is rich, and the block/bash is spot on. It fits better than any other hat I've have ever tried.
In only a few days with my AB I have received more compliments than I ever have before. It looks super, and I'm sure it will last a long time.
To anyone considering getting an Adventurebilt from Steve, go for it!
Thanks again Steve!
Thanks to Fedora!
