OK...Now I finally Need Some Wested Help...Ordering:)

Post by IndyTaz »

 Yes..it's true. I am ordering. I have some questions. (Doesn't everyone?) FIRST OFF I AM 1m 89cm Tall and athletic.

1. The Ebay Goat Westeds look alright in AUD 350 or there abouts. Are they a bad choice?

2. I want the "Raider Look" but am not an accuracy hound for this my first!
How does one measure the needed statistic to choose the right EBay size from the generic off the rack ones? I gather the chest is measured from back to the front under the arms and over the chest(nipples he he) Do you give yourself 2 or 1 inch leeway?

3.From where do you measure you arms to get the right size for your jacket? I gather Raiders jackets need to be on the thumb knuckle at relaxed stance...or what? They are longer in the arms no?

4.If I buy an Ebay Wested....how does one know the arms will fit you if they are off the rack? I just thought Ebay order as it was the cheaper choice for me:)

Regards
TAZ

PS Erri...thanks for the helkp so far

Hey Indytaz, sorry I won't be much help since I haven't bought an "Ebay" off-the-shelf Wested... but I did want to say that I've wondered the same thing regarding the sleeves. I am also somewhat athletic and my arms are (appairently) longer than most because the Wested sleeves usually don't fit me correctly. I've had 3 Westeds so far, all bought used from various individuals and haven't been completely satisfied with sleeve lengths on any of them. The sleeves on the one I have now were slightly short on me so I let them out and they fit perfectly now..but you can tell where they were let out if you look closely. The point of this is that if I were you I'd make sure and specify an arm length to wested and be slightly generous... 'cause if you're like me those slightly short sleeves will drive you crazy. I'm actually trying to get Wested to make me a custom jacket right now (not an Indy) and I'm looking forward to having perfect sleeve lengths. Best of luck to you.

 Well Doug...that's something to be wary of for sure. I think I might just have to bite the bullet and pay the extra cash for the tailored made one. I dunno.....LOL I just don't trust my own measurements and we don't have any tailors sops here. Would a bridal shop do this do you think?

PS Thanks for the reply bro

I'd highly suggest using a jacket that already fits you well to guide you in measuring.

All Wested really needs to fit the jacket is your height, arm and chest measurement. Chest measurement is just around the chest, under the armpits, and I'd say slightly loose. Or, you could use your regular jacket size (for example I wear a 46 long) Arm measurement is from the shoulder to the wrist, arm slightly bent, or again just measure from the outside shoulder seam to the cuff on another jacket.

After you've taken your measurements check out Wested's website. The Wested website has all of the standard measurements for each size listed. From looking there, they show that in my size, 46 long, that the shoulder is 7", the sleeve length is 26.75", and the back length is 27.5".

Finding the info for your size and comparing it to your actual measurements should help you figure out if an "off the rack" sized jacket will work for you or not. I couldn't, unfortunately, as I have shorter arms and I really hate jackets with sleeves that are too long, so I ordered a custom sized jacket.

Hope this helps! :)

Taz;

A bridal shop will do it for sure.
My thought on it is to get it right the first time and save money and grief that way. ;)

2. Correct. And if you want the jacket well fitting, give Wested the exact measurement since they add a bit of room anyway. (2 inches?) You could always state "room for an extra sweater" aswell and they will add that into account if you feel you need it.

3. Edge of shoulder, relaxed stance, thumb knuckle. I added half an inch or so since the goat sleeves shorten a bit after a while with wrinkling.

4. I'd go ahead and ask Peter with the jacket in mind. If you are lucky, the sleeve length is perfect. ;)

I hope this helps, a bit.

Sorry Taz, I haven't been in this section for a while! Sorry for being late. Drop me a PM when you're on msn so we can chat about this Jacket. I apologize for having delayed this discussion but you know... those hours foward are often an obstacle!

to be quick... if you're athletic I warmly suggest you the 80's cut!!!! And possibly smaller pockets (not LC pockets). That's all you basically need to know! For more crazy details there are whole threads about it. Anyway we can chat about this when we're both awaken at the same time
