As a newcommer I just want to say that the addictive quality of this site is perilous. I stumbled across you guys a little over a year ago when I was looking on the internet for a hat (correction...it's not a hat, it's a fedora) that would look similar to Indy's. As a casual watcher of the movies, how was I to know there was more than one?! Becoming enlightened is one thing, but I feel I'm sinking deeper fast! Where's a good whip when you need one?
Can anyone recommend a good publicly accessible web server?
I'm trying to attach a photo to show you the dammage you've done. Here goes.

Thanks for fixing my image! I took notes for next time.
Specs on the lid:
It's a...you guys should be able to figure it out.
Here's a clue:
I'm Inexpensive Jones so I got it for around $50.
The band is too wide so I folded it to make it thinner.
It came with a rather dorky-looking pinch so it's been bashed and rebashed and re-rebashed at least 7 times.

Being an Indy fan is perilous! You get the gear and then start thinking you can do amazing things like... hang of bridges.

Note falling into water can ruin your gear (or atleast means it will need a good wash) as the video will prove!

Luckily i wasnt wearing all my gear, just the hat. Have you ever worn cardboard? LOL You can break rocks with the hat now. But as its drying it seems to be becoming more flexible!

Also, inexpensive_jones i meant to ask how did you do that effect on your pic. Very Indyish!

Not sure about the effect. It happened when I made the jpeg into a gif.
Go figure. I think the image is meant to be viewed smaller.

that first pic looks an awful lot like my indiana miller. the indiana miller also makes a great last crusade hat. the price though isn't quite $50...

I ordered it from their warehouse in Missouri for $45.00+$7.50 S&H
It only took about a week for it to arrive, but it took me a year to get it to look the way I wanted it. All the putsing around makes me wonder if it was worth the money I saved.
Anyway, with a title like "Inexpensive Jones" not to mention a wife, 4 kids and a tight bidget, I'm commited to fun with frugality.

I too have a Stetson TOD fedora. It served me well from 1984 till I found this place last year. Welcome to the hobby, you will find out the people here are 2nd to none!

Great poster and great hat for that price. You and I are kind of in the same boat only I have two kids!

I think the most expensive thing as far as my gear goes that I own is the whip....the jacket and hat would come in second and third.

I bought a few of those Stetson Temples a few years ago. The brim width sure looks very close to the LC hat as pictured here on this thread. My Temples came with a 2 5/8 by 2 3/8 dimensional brim. Now, I am wondering if the hat Ford wore for that particular scene was the Stetson, re-styled, as you have done it. Fedora

I never would have picked this for a Stetson Temple. That hat almost looks too good for it to even be possible! I used to sell ST's at the VHS, and I used to think: "How can you call this hat the 'Temple' in reference to Indy? This hat looks only passable as an Indy on its best day."

KUDOS for turning that hat into the masterpiece it is today!

I 've had a request for additional angles of the Stets. So I thought others might want to see these as well. The progression is from top to bottom, just like on the front views. The top being how it looked right out of the box, the bottom being what it looks like today.

As you can see it tapers and will never be on the scale of an AB or Akubra or many others for that matter. But it beats the $50 wool felts hands down. You can also see the fold of my ribbon accentuated.

Thanks for the kudos, and right back at you. I just watched the first 5 min. of your movie. Fantastic Job! I recommend that everyone on COW take a look. I'm impressed and can't wait to see more.

In answer to your question

How did you do such a great job recapturing that photo?

I assume you mean the headshot not the poster.
It wasn't very difficult. 2 lights were used. 1 behind me off to the right with no diffusion, that was for the highlights. The 2nd was just to my side with a soft box for diffusion, that's the main light. Then I put a white reflector board on the left to fill in the shadows a bit and a silver reflector in my lap to kick a little light back up under my brim. The background is just my garage that I blurred out by using a narrow depth of field with the camera.
Here's a better resolution of it.

The poster is a different story but not too difficult.

Any chance on a few tips of how you got THAT look with THAT hat?! Amazing job... I understand you folded the ribbon, but was the rest just straight bashing? Use any water, steam, etc? I take it you just folded the ribbon on the top and re-stiched?

Ah, commercial photographer, no wonder they're good.
No need to conver them to gifs though. Just size them down and save as jpgs. What kind of camera do you shoot?

Yeah converting a photograph to GIF is useless. The quality will drop a lot and the file size will go up. Use JPG for photographs and save GIF and PNG for charts, pics with text etc.
