Just found a S & W 1917 for $295 on Gunbroker. A couple of things to note. The bore has been smoothed out to shoot .45 shot. The barrel has been extended (which wouldn't matter if you wanted to cut it down to 4" anyway). This would be a relatively cheap way to get a totally "authentic" Indy gun that could actually be shot. Just some info for anyone interested. Link http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... m=49828490
Good Luck,
Anyone want a S & W 1917 for $295.00 NR?

Apparently this thing as been modified to fire 410 guage shot shells. Thats very strange. Personally, I don't think its worth a pluged nickle. It would be very expensive to put the thing in firing order if you want to be able to shoot .45ACP or .45 Colt in it.
Very odd indeed.
EDIT: On second thought I believe the seller means that in can fire .45 bird or snake shot loads, but with a smooth bore barrel you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with standard ammo.
