source for webley moon clips/45AR ammo

hello all

just acquired a mk vi

I need a source for full or half moon clips to fit the Webley Mk 6 so I can shooot .45 ACP in it (it's a conversion)

also looking for .45 auto rim ammo

help appreciated

You can get .45 Auto Rim with 230 gr. lead bullets factory loaded from Remington. Any dealer can order it for you, or you can probably find a distributor on line or in Shotgun News. I didn't realize .45 Auto Rim was still in production. I thought that if you wanted it you would have to roll your own.

I may have spoke too soon on the Remington ammo. I just did a google search and in there some article says Remington discontinued it. but, I found Remington AR brass on ebay and several companies that do produce it. I think Corbon was one. Anyhow I'm pretty sure it is still being made. All kinds of reloading and other related items can be found for .45AR on the search engine.regards hanson.

You were correct about Reminton J_. They don't list .45 AR or a .44 spl and a .41 mag. load I used to buy by the case. Corbon lists a .45AR with approx. the same ballistics as their .45ACP 160 gr. load.regards,hanson.

Ah, I thought so. I did quite a bit of reason search on it when I got my HE2. I think Remington still makes the brass, they just don't make any ammo. I think there are several other companies that also make brass. There are plenty of components and load data for the round. Its just that no one is making auto rim ammo any more. As I recall, if you want .45 Auto Rim you have to make them yourself.

Oh, about the .44 Special and .41 mag. I believe Remington's UMC brand makes it.

On a Mk VI cut for 45acp, watch that rear dimensioning on the cylinder!

I took mine out to the range today (Memorial Day annual range visit), and found that 45acp on full or half moons shot fine (not real accurate, 45 acp is .451 and barrel on Webley is .455). I'll try to post targets on my LC Webley thread.

BUT the original MkII Webley .455 ammo did NOT ignite if cartridges were fully inserted in cylinder. Reason is the cylinder cut moves the primers too far away from the firing pin. They only fired reliably if barrel was tipped up dropping rounds against back plate before pulling trigger. (Didn't Indy do that riding the horse in LC?)

I'm not sure the thickness of the rim of 45 Auto Rim, but MkII Fiocchi .455 rim is only .060" thick. My MkVI Webley is cut so there's a .100 gap at real of cylinder, and firing pin protrudes about .050, so pin just touches the .455s fully inserted. Full moon clip and 45acp rim mics .082, so that extra .022 of firing pin bite makes a lot of difference.

Note that to get the 45acp empties OUT of a full moon clip without damaging your clips or fingers, I'd recommend the DeMooner tool ($16.95) here:

Don't bother with half-moons, unless you like the novelty or WWII collectability (half moons fit in the old GI canvas pouches). Full moons are faster and easier to reload.
