Post by eaglecrow »

I know the picture is not the best but I tought I'd share it here. I think the hat looks a bit like a Indy Fedora

It fits the time period, but it looks more like a black fedora to me. From what I can see in the picture, the pinch in the front isn't tight enough. Not a bad looking hat though, espically with us select few that have a hat fetish. :P

Aside the black collour of the hat (on the black/white picture  ) and the bash, it seems at least simmilar blocked

That's defenetly not an Indy-hat, but the untapered crown-style was very common in the 30's, so this one is nothing special!

IS there any pinch to it? It looks open crowned to me. It might work if it was bashed right though. It certainly is tall enough and seems pretty straigh.

There appears to be a pinch there (excuse be for my poor tracing), but it might just be the photograph. Things this old aren't going to be easily clairified.

Yeah, it's hard to tell. If that's the front pinch it's really high which looks kind of strange.

Maybe it just has a center and no front pinch, which was very common on vintage homburgs of the golden era. But I seen some fedora with that style, too. A good example are the hats Frank Sinatra wore, not 20s-40s, but...

Why that??? :-k It HAS a front pinch and it HASN'T a center dent. Most of his hats had c- or teardrop-crown as the style was more popular in the 40s!

It's way too tall and round on top to have any center dent. It looks pretty much unbashed to me.

Dude- Sinatra's hats were TINY and he always wore them really far back on his head.
True, Bogart had the untapered look going for him in his films in the 30's and 40's...but yeah.Certainly not an Indy lid- although, he does have that pinch near the top on his more famous hats (Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, Big Sleep). Indy's hat happens to be a British made hat- hence the center dent. Americans- they liked them c-crowns in their fedoras.

Looks like this unbashed Akubra Federation with a bit more dome on the top.

To me, it looks awesome. It looks like a great fedora from the 1930's and I wish more people wore them today.

I'm sure you're not alone... I'm just astounded (in a disgutsted and disapointed way) that styles from the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s get recycled year after year and yet there are a few of us who keep “The Retrocentric Hope Alive” with the style of the 1930’s and 1940’s.

I would hope to see more pix of “Blind Boy Fuller” and his fabulous fedora soon.

Yeah, I'm sick of the 60's-80's retro clothing. The colors are generally horible and the patterns aren't usally that great either not to mention most of it's sloppy looking. If they are going to recycle, it would be nice to see some good looking fashon come back in style (with nice fedoras).

You see a nice "classic Hollywood" dress/look on the red carpets once in a while. Vintage has been the buzz word for a year or so for dress occasions in Hollywood.
