AHH...where do I start (AB wanted)!

Post by Doug C »

Well about a year ago or less, I was reading 'the fedora' section of COW quite regularly and was able to stay on top of all the changes regarding the Adventure Built hats that I knew I'd be getting eventually. Anyway I've taken some time off from the forum and am back now and getting really ready to buy soon. But I'm a little lost, I mean I've tried reading some of the old threads and it seems a bit confusing. I notice that Steve is making only Beaver hats now, but are there different grades I need to be concerned with or is there a standard that he uses? Also, what about color, is there a standard? The ribbon I'd be getting is from the original HJs, is that correct? Are the "raider's turn" standard when ordering a Raven-bar sceen hat? Is there still a COW member discount? What is the actual price? Can someone help? I actually remember a thread where Steve explained a lot of what his new hats would consist or (not using rabbit anymore, etc.) but cannot find it now. I figure Steve would probably answer these questions for me but I should also do my homework before contacting him. Besides his website could use some updating. Oh, also I measured my head with a seamstress tape and it showed 22 and 1/8th to 1/4 what hat size will I be buying?

Steve stopped making the rabbit/nutria blend hats and 100% rabbit felt hats awhile ago. All he offers now is 100% beaver felt, and I'm certain that it's not a blend. All beaver. I think the ribbons being used now are the original HJ ribbons, and you can order the turn when ordering a RB scene hat. It's standard, I guess. COW members still get discounts, and our price comes out to 235$ shipped. I'd say your head measurement is between 6 7/8 - 7.

Thanks Strider, that will help. I'll research a bit more before I place the order.. Oh, what's the average turn around time once the order is placed?

Six weeks I believe Doug. I just placed mine a week or so ago. Worst and best wait of my life :)

Oh man... I had no idea, but I should've known. I'm so impatient. That's as bad as waiting for a jacket.

I understand that the turnaround time is about 8 weeks now. I just ordered a new one from Steve, and this is what he told me.

Uhh, that's worse than waiting on the jacket. But I do understand the whole 'good things come to those who wait' thing.
