My Homade Whip Holder!

Post by Pitfall Harry »

Hello...

Well, here is my first evert attempt at making my very one whip holder. Now I know these things aren't that difficult to make but it's a big deal for me because I've never been a craftsman or handy with tools around the house. I'm the type guy that hires a repairman.

Anyway....

This was made from the boatload of scrap leather Adam Winrich sent me. As you will see in the photo's I added some rubber onto the inner part of the holder using super glue. This, I'm hoping, will help keep the whip from slipping. I also custom fitted it for my whip so it was fairly tight to begin with before I added the rubber.

If anyone else is thinking about adding the rubber I would advise you not to store the whip in the holder with the rubber over a long period of time because as some have pointed out that it could "rub off" in some way onto the whip. I don't think with general everyday use of taking it in and out will have any adverse effects........at least I hope not. :?

Here it is in all it's glory. Post your thoughts and comments below. :)

That looks awesome, Harry! I've got some scrap leather which I was planning to make into a whip holder as well and your pics really motivated me to start making it. What are the dimensions of yours?

Thanks guys.

It's an inch wide and it's about 8 1/2 inches long. That though is after I folded the piece over to attach one part of the snap fastner. I also have a little bit folded over on the other end too.

Basically what I did was go off my memory of what his holder looked like in the film and used an old piece of leather I used to use for my old whips to gauge how wide I needed it.

I then cut the leather pretty long and then wrapped it around my budget gun belt to see how wide I needed the loop for the belt. I then marked a spot on the leather where I needed the hole for the snap fastner after I had folded it over. I used my drill to make a hole to attach the fastner. After I put together the one end of the fastner and made the belt loop I got my coiled bullwhip and laid it on the leather. I then pulled the other end of the leather over the whip and figured out the tightest fit I could get without the snap coming undone. I marked the spot, drilled the hole and then attached the other end of the snap fastner. I folded over some of the excess leather on the opening end and used a small rivet to pin it down. After that I got the piece of rubber you see and cut it to fit inside the holder. I used super glue that works with both rubber and leather and glued in the piece, which by the way dried really fast....and then I was done.

Hope that helped. :)

I'll keep you guys posted on how well it holds up. I haven't had a really good chance to field test it.

Hopefully my post above helps out anyone else who wants to make their own. If I can do it anyone can. :)

Looks like a good design. I'm sure the rubber helps to grip the whip and prevent it from slipping. Great innovation.

Thanks. :D

It was G-Mann's idea though so the credit goes to him and Blues for trying it before me.

I haven't really tested it to much yet. I'm going to have to wait though until after I'm done treating my whip with Pecard's.

Looks good, I think I may add a grip to TAG Holder to keep the whip in place... looks pretty handy

Good job, Harry. Feels good to make some of the stuff yourself, doesn't it? (I made one as well, so I know the feeling - it's like an itch when you get an idea of how to make one.)

Let us know how it holds up for you.

Wow, I forgot about this thread.

So far so good. I haven't really had to run with it yet or really put it through it paces but it seems to be holding up quite well and the rubber doesn't leave any marks on the whip that I can tell.

I've been thinking about making another one since I have all this leather but I really haven't had the time.
