well its that time. as some of you may remember i was ther recipient of a specially made whip by adam winrich that had a full length steel cable core. ( viewtopic.php?t=16343 )
well now that i have had the chance to actually use it a few times thought i would post my review about it on here.
first off i would like to say that this whip is a beast at 12 feet long and that you could get hurt easily just like any other whip. this one though carries a couple other cautions though, first the obvious the whips just plain weighs more so if you do get hit by it it hurts....MORE. also one thing i noticed is the whip has a tendency to recoil quite a bit more than a all leather whip. by this i mean the whip can come back at you as the steel cable eventually after being coiled for awhile kinda gains a memory of being coiled and it likes to go back into that coil.
when the whip is coiled the weight is not as apparent and it feels only slightly heavier then a regular whip. once the whip is uncoiled it feels like you are holding onto the end of a 12 foot long steel rod. that can make your arm fairly tired after a few hard cracks.
now then i have noticed that you can kinda of control the flight of the whip by rotating the handle with that coil memory the steel gives the whip it can make that interesting. the whip will wrap and hold tight on things about the size of a beer can on up so not as small as a all leather whip since it is not as flexable. however it is a much more "solid" feeling when it wraps. the whip is not fast but again that is to be expected, however if you do it just right it cracks like a cannon. i honest love the way the whip feels in my hand and how it cracks. the grip is larger then my other whip which i like (fits my hand a bit better). the whip takes some getting use to but it is alot of fun to work with and acts so differantly from any other whip i have used that kinda makes things more interesting.
overall i would recommend getting one of these as a unique whip to add to your collection. as a regluar indy whip i would say get a regular whip. i would also say only for a experianced whip user as you really have to concentrate to keep this thing going the way you want.

Thanks for the review, Maury.
Yeah, this whip is a total beast and not for the faint of heart (or arm).
If I had to do it again, I'd probably put less leather in the core, no plaited belly, and make the whole thing smaller in diameter. Though, with your whip, the extra weight in the overlay helps to move the cable on the inside. A smaller whip with a cable inside would be harder to crack.
