I went to see a man about a dog...
The doggy was friendly:
but I ended up seeing a big stack of skins:
Wouldn't you just love some of the off cuts?
Pick a leather, any leather....
Tom had left his jacket there:
In fact lots of them:
And the Doc...
And one of Harry P's friends...
Something from a long time ago...
Looking Lethal:

Thanks guys, Peter was kind enough to let me take a few pics of the jackets dotted around the shop.
That is a Naboo Palace Guard (Well done Tone! You win the Horsehide sample swatch!) and the Harry Potter waistcoat are original "leftovers" and aren't on sale.
Sorry, this pic's a bit out of focus:

Yes, it's their 'Doctor' lookalike prototype, they had very good reference material. The wrist straps give it away and the upward angled seam at the chest. This jacket is made out of Cowhide. It is very tough and heavy. He says it's too heavy, suggests goatskin instead.Baggers wrote:Sure that's the Doctor's coat? Still, I would love to get a 3/4 black leather. What hide was it in?

When did you go? Maybe you saw my new jacket before it left.
I'd just fill my pockets with leather samples. Actually that would be great if anyone from the US goes over there they could bring back a load of samples and distribute them for Peter instead of them shipping them over seas and getting lost half the time.

That's what Peter's been saying all along, like the "Das Boot" coats he made. Do you have any reference to a real vintage one? I can't find any good pics.J_Weaver wrote:That "doctor" coat is a dead ringer for the foul weather coats worn by U-Boat crews in WWII.
Bink: I'm not sure the Palace Guard one would suit you!

Well, funny you should mention that because I saw a very similar coat at Aero Leathers here.J_Weaver wrote:That "doctor" coat is a dead ringer for the foul weather coats worn by U-Boat crews in WWII.
KT, so Peter thinks the cowhide makes it too heavy, huh? Aero is making theirs out of front quarter horsehide with a wool lining, and you can imagine how much that probably weighs. It looks like my decision is going to be a hard one.
Cheers!

Canyon,
I wish I were in the UK more often. A few years ago, I was in London on business and only got one day for sightseeing. I visited the Swaine Adeney Brigg store where I was able to get the ribbon replaced on my '97 Poet that day.
I really wanted to visit Wested to have Peter measure me for a jacket.
Hopefully next time.

Kt, not really. Ive been able to find some info by searching Google and I've seen a few on ebay, but thats it.Kt Templar wrote:That's what Peter's been saying all along, like the "Das Boot" coats he made. Baggers, yup, I've seen Aero's also. I think they call it the "mariner." Its a good looking coat, but a bit out of my price range.

Thanks Weaver, just thought you might be able to put that discussion to rest.
Just to keep this Indy related, look at the 4th the picture with the leather draped over the beam. Behind it on the wall and next to the grey work coat are the heavy cardboard templates the Indy jackets are cut to. Neat Huh?

Hi HJ, Yes the 9th Doctor. I didn't want to say, the beeb are quite protective about stuff, even if they don't own the design they do own the the character and have lot's of lawyers. But what's good is they have already said as long as anyone doesn't sell it as "The Official Doctor Who Jacket" then they are cool with it.Hemingway Jones wrote:Is the "Doctor" coat a Doctor Who replica or some other doctor?

I have seen enough pics to tell you that the "doctor" coat is basically a reproduction of the U-Boat coat.Kt Templar wrote:Thanks Weaver, just thought you might be able to put that discussion to rest.

Speaking of Indy-related...is that his DP on the end of the rack in the 5th picture?Kt Templar wrote:Just to keep this Indy related, look at the 4th the picture with the leather draped over the beam. ####...i'd spend alot of i ever went there...
Just looking at those pics, i'd get the wotw, mission impossible 1 blazer, the doctor's jacket, and another indy jacket that fit a bit tighter and snug than my jacket.
so how much would that cost me? =D Though if i had to choose just one...well i'm not sure what i would choose. Whenever I go to london (never been but will) i'll definetely get at least one jacket from them (saves HEAPS on taxes and postage - to ship one to australia costs pretty much the same amount for taxes and postage than the actual jacket).
