My Akubra Federation

Post by Heyjude7 »

Just received another Akubra fed. reg.( the first one was too big so i sold it to my buddy onboard here)
Wanted to get everyone's opinion on my bash..what do ya think?
8) one pic is the old one and the new one.. old on the left and new on the right.. the new one has a slightly taller crown and no dimensional cut.. but i kinda like it like that.. i will probably fix it when i get over my fear of messin it up!

The Fed hats

Post by AngerMgnt25 »

Awesome bashing! If it wasn't for Heyjude7 i wouldn't be wearing an Akubra Fed. reg.! i love the way they look. 8) The pinch and the front of the hat looks like TOD, while the back sort of resembles Last Crusade.
once i figue out how to fix my pictures I will post them as well. :D

Heyjude? that shop looks really familier :?

Oh, good. I was afraid that was what Jude looked like after an all night shift!!!

They BOTH look great, my friend! I'm pleased to see there are TWO Feds out there floating around on the same ship now! You'll soon have a BUNCH of converts wanting to buy Feds, and then it will be a U. S. Navy version of the Queen Mary summit!!! (grins)

HIGH regards!

We're trying to see if the Navy will change the standard ball cap to the Akubra Fed :D , but i don't think the Commanding Officer will approve

Are there any pics of the Akubra Fed or Fed Deluxe with the Cairo Bash? I've been searching but I haven't found any so far.

Nice. :)

Is that hat gray or is it just the lighting outside making it look grey?

Not to start that whole Gray / Brown discussion that's always going on here, but....

That first pic of the hat looks just like the color of the hat when Indy get's on the plane.

I was refering to this shot of the hat not the original one I called gray. Actually this, only a little lighter.

Beat it up, sweat in it, pour dirt on it, turn it, stuff something under the ribbon etc.

If those aren't enough send it to Fedora. 8)

Yeah, I'm beginning to see that the worse you treat the hat the more it begins to look like the SOC bash.

Now all I need is some Nazi thugs to attack me while I'm shopping with my wife!

 That is basically it. The Cairo hat would be a canidate for a refurbish, back in the old days. Nowadays, it looks way too cool. And that is one reason why it is hard to copy that hat, using a new hat. The Indy fedora may have been artificially distressed, and was, but some of that distressing came from wearing it, and sweating in it, rolling in it, fighting in it, etc. And, he probably had to put the hat on many times in the filming, tugging it down so it would not blow off the next time. A new hat would not stay new looking given the nature of the film. Fedora

a lil lighter

Post by Heyjude7 »

Hey, i got ansy and used a lil bleach and water and i think it came out good. At first i freaked cuz it had a few white'ish spots on it but then i sprayed a lil bit of felt stiffner and bamn! the color blended to a nice raiders tone.. the ribbon got messed up a lil bit but i will replace it down the line when i get back. here's a couple pics of the fed next to another "untouched" one. tell me what ya think gents :?:

I wonder if you could have wrapped like a piece of cloth or something around the ribbon before spraying the hat to keep it from getting stained like that.

I don't know how easy it is to replace ribbons on those hats either.

It looks great by the way, very nice job.

Where did you get the felt stiffner from?

I wonder if the same thing would work with the Fed. Deluxe? I can't remember how much of a difference the color is between the two hats.

stifner

Post by Heyjude7 »

I got the stiffener from villagehatshop.com. its called bickmore n it has a horse on it.. it helped out big time... when the color looked like crapola, it evened it out. i used a lil iraqi sand to give it a lighter distressed look and it came out awesome. i will post new pics tomorrow when i wake up.i tried tapin the ribbon off when i sprayed it at first but it leaked down into it.. but i used a sharpie to even the color out.. the shapie with a few sprays of the stiffener turned the right color. i am really amazed on how well it came out. i really thought i was gonna regret it and buy a new one but i love it. thanks for everyone's imputs on this. it is greatly appreciated.. next project (when i get back home from this cruise) ... distressing my wested...
thanks again gents..post more pics of your feds n delux's

You guys be careful with the bleach. It weakens and breaks down the felt. Normally hydrogen pyroxide is safe to use on fur, for bleaching purposes. Just thought I would let ya know before you ruined a good hat. Fedora
