Sleeve tapering !!!

What exactly is the standard sleeve tapering that Wested does upon request? Meaning how much tapering is done? What is the circumference around the cuff? Is it drastically different from the standard cuff? Anyone that has had this done to their jacket please respond. Also how drastic a change is the regular cut to the "80's" cut? THANKS

Go with a regualr cut and witout sleeve taper. Peter can acutlaly do a different chest size and different body. For instance, 42 chest, 40 body. It'll give you a more fitted look without any chage in the look of the jacket

My jacket size is 48 long. Let me know what your measurement for your cuff was. Did you just state on your order that you wanted tapered sleeves and/or provide a circumference measurement for the cuff?

Ken, are the tapered sleeves smaller all over or just in the cuff area?

Well, by definition, taper starts out big at the bottom, and narrows out toward the top. I own a Wested goat with tapered sleeves, and it's normal width (at least feels like it) at the shoulder, and gradually thins out as you move toward the cuff. It's a noticable difference from the normal cuff size, but not so drastic that it will be too tight, IMO.

Ah, thanks Strider, thats what I thought.

I don't know about anyone else, but I could use a smaller sleeve all over. Compared to a vintage A-2 I have the sleeves on my Wested are pretty big. Really a bit too big IMO.

Boy you said it their Ken. I about worried myself to death over the small detail when I ordered my Wested. The darnedest thing is that after having my Wested for over a year I want another. I guess I'm still in search of my "perfect" jacket.

I didn't even have my lamb for a year before I wanted the goat.

My two Westeds are primarily jackets to wear for California weather. If it's a sunny day out, less than 80 degrees, I wear the lamb, because it's got the cotton/satin lining, and is lightweight. If it's colder out, like 55-60 degrees, I wear the goat, because it's got the cotton silesia lining instead, and it's a thicker, heavier hide, so it keeps me warmer at times like that.

The main reason I ordered tapered sleeves on the goat is because I meant to wear it when it was chilly here. As such, I noticed that when the wind blew, if I lifted my wrist to check my watch, the wind would blow right up the sleeve, since the gap between the underside of my wrist and the bottom of the sleeve was so large. With tapered sleeves and cotton sleeve lining, that doesn't happen.

That's interesting, you may be quite slim. I find the armhole fairly snug (quite 30's fitting as the FL guys will tell you). My jacket has tapered sleeves and they are great. I tried on both the standard and the tapered in the shop and (with just a shirt sleeve) the regular cut jacket was just too baloony for me at the wrist. The tapered is not mega tight just nicely fitted. If you wan the sleeve closer cut you may ask for the armhole to be raised a little but be very careful about the measurements!

You call that cold? I've worn my Authentic Lamb through the Finnish winter with temperatures ranging from -4 to 40 (-20 to 5 Celsius). Never needed a thicker jacket, just layered underneath.

You hit the nail on the head. I'm 6'3" and wear a 43 long. The A-2 I have is a slim cut. It is a 44L and only has 2" of movement room instead of the 4" that is standard on the Westeds. The Sleeve seems to be about 1" or so slimmer all around.
