Like the 'scar scene' in Jaws...

Post by Snakewhip_Sable »

Had anyone here ever really hurt themselves trying something new with or just learning to use a whip? A lash between the chin and lower lip maybe? Anyone 'Van Gogh' themselves by not wearing a hat? Post your war wounds here.

The first time I cracked a bullwhip, it slashed the back of my t-shirt open, I "made a noise", let's say... and dropped the whip. It left a heck of a welt and made sleeping uncomfortable for about a week. I wish I'd kept the shirt, actually.

This is not about whips but if it counts... (I think someone already know this story) when I first ride (rode?) a horse long long time ago I fell off (the horse heard a female and started running after 5 minutes I started riding for the very first time of my life! ) and my right foot was stuck into that dont-know-the-name for holding the feet  and I've been dragged for many many meters with my chest on the grass... luckly I didnt hit any of the rocks which were on the ground!
It was a new experience to me :P
I didn't hurt myself really... except an uncomfrotable feeling on the chest. My mum was scared to death. I admit it wouldn't have been fun to watch... a 9 years old boy dragged for a long distance by a horse!

Ow ehm now that it came in mind to me... I was already an Indy nut and I was wearing a cheap hat... which was lost immediately after the fall

The story of my scar on the chin is much more silly and I'm not really going to tell that

I've lashed myself on the back, calves and butt more times than I care to count. Once, I got myself real good on the back of the neck. Boy, did I ever feel that!!

Nothing from a whip, but I have a couple of scars under my chin from busting it open on the ice playing hockey. Nothing bleeds like a chin cut, lemme tell ya.

I also have some little scars on my right arm/elbow from trying to stop myself at a glass screen door and a long scar down my right wrist from climbing near our cabin (both done as a child).

... oh, and one under my hair that you can see when I have a short hair cut from slamming into the edge of an open car door.

That's all the major ones, not counting things from slap staplers or X-Acto knives.

Still no whip scars though... guess I'll have to work on that.

Stirrup, erri, it's called a stirrup.

I am a canvas of healed-over scars. Funny, because I am such a couch potato now. I can't recall what they are all from...but my favorites are a nice 'Z' shaped one on my index finger from a woodcutting accident ... and a crescent moon near my elbow from getting cut on some sharp metal while working on a system in the cockbit of a bomber. The aircrew was unimpressed by how much I bled... ;)

I'm surprised how many scars heal over, though. Most of my damage eventually ended up w/ no mark - like the broken bones, nose, concussions, cracked ribs, separated shoulder, etc.

But Indy-wise, the only thing I've ever done was this:
viewtopic.php?t=9767&highlight=snap+ouch
(oh, darn, the picture is gone from that thread...have to look it up again.)

No gunshot wounds though. (My wife doesn't own a gun.) ;)

Wasn't quite enough for them?

I have a rather spectacular chin scar from riding an unintentional 200' underground waterslide (twice), but I was really looking for whip scar tales here.

no scars for whips have raised a few welts in my youth practicing with a whip. however i do have a scar that is mostly faded now along the side of my neck from a sword  i use to practice kendo, i have a few more punctures from that from people shinai breaking. then of course i do have the usual many many scars over my arms and a few on my legs from my youthful adventures lol

oh i do have 1 scar from a bullet wound it just grazed my arm (i was in the second grade at the time) i was walking home from school some kid was playing with his dads gun fired it and the bullet grazed my arm. if it had been a few more inches to the right i would have been dead.

COOL! The scar part, not the almost dead part.

Snakewhip - those three good welts I left myself faded out in a couple days completely...never managed to break skin with the whip. Had a really stinging read ear for a while...man, that will sober you up instantly. ;)

That'll teach you not to drink and crack!

Rebelgtp, scars are made better with stories like that. They're almost worth it with a good story.

yeah and oddly enough i can honestly say its not the last time i had been shot at at least the other times missed. the other times i was out exploring the blue blue mountains and a drunk hunter started taking shots at me. i'm lucky he was a bad shot.

but yeah most of my scars have some interesting stories to go with them. but like you said sable it makes them good stories, and reminders at times.

Zohar had a really nasty looking "wound" from hitting his face with a whip a few years back. It completely healed with no ill effect, but the picture of that baby....

Was that the one on the left side jaw line? I remember someone getting a good one like that just before I joined, when I was still lurking... (For some reason, I thought that was Pagey.)

doesn't have to be permanent scarring, just bites from a whip.

I still get hit to, (espeically when trying different cracks)hahaha, I haven't received any scars, as of yet, but I do have one from birth thats rather long going up the side of my face, :).

I remember a kid watching me target crack, he ask if I received my scar from the whip though, I told him, nah, it was from a knife fight, .
