new vs. old Todd delux strap *Update* PICS added

Post by eaglecrow »

I got the Todd's delux strap last week. I compared it with Nick's older one an they are very different. The older one is a good quallity, though latigo strap with deep grooves and a sealed back.
The new one I got is very thin and flexible, the grooves are allmost fading and the back seems less sealed (and the fabers are comming off on the sides).

I wasn't happy about my strap but Todd's costumes offered me a total refund.
I'm going to post a picture of both compared next week

Since you guys have the strap, can you tell me if it could be fixed to work with a different-styled bag? My bag has the little clip things attached to the bag similar to the way the little rings are attached on the Indy bag. My strap has the little rings. Could I fix the strap to work with my bag without cutting up my vintage (stamped 1936) courier bag?

I'm not sure if this answers your question.

I simply attached a ring next to the original clip thing. The ring is a brass ring bought in a shop selling leather-goods. I had to cut the ring open with a hacksaw.

when did you ordered yours? Is it a thick and long lasting leather? or is it very flexible, thin and barely sealed (if it is anyway) on the back?

I will get a refund without a problem, but Ann from Todd's costumes told me that there is no possibility to get the old strap any longer.

Thanks K. I noticed a little button-like thing there. Can that come unsnapped? If it does it might work... but if not I'll just buy a new bag :D. And an edit on the year: it's 1943, my bad. Still a sweet bag though, to be vintage and all.

Your welcome Kodiak,
The little button is a screw-lock and can be opened with a screwdriver.

Where could I buy some a' them little rings? My bag will work with the strap if I can do a little modification. All I need are those rings.

Try a horse equipment or boat supply shop...

Well from looking at mine it seems sealed on the back, and very high quality. It didnt seem to lay as pliable as ur picture shows, it was a bit stiffer like the old one i think. Ill try to take a picture next week and show u mine. Ive very happy with my strap though, and dont have an old one to compair to, so I'm happy still.
