Red Aldens

Post by independent »

I fell in love with the red colored aldens on the frontpage - are these originally brown but treated with a special cream/polish, or are these the 'brick red' aldens from the past?

I personally love that look, without the fake distressing.

Anybody know how to obtain a pair?

I agree, the reddish brown is a very nice color. The Aldens i bought were a bit reddish... (if you want to see pics have a look into the FOR SALE area). And Welcome on Board milesfides!

Welcome, milesfides! I use Meltonian shoe cream/polish on my Aldens. The color I use is actually called "brick." That will help maintain and give that reddish brown appearence to your Aldens. The best luck I've had getting that color, though, it either online or at a dedicated shoe repair shop.

The reddish brown go back a few years....probably 5 now. That's what mine are, and they're that old. The next iteration of the boot came in the infamous pumpkin orange, and the reddish brown never returned.

The pumpkin orange is gone and the colour is much better than that but it is still not quite what I and I assume most are looking for (hence the many different ways to dye them.) I recently sent an email to Aldens asking if they can make them in different colours. I was told by the Alden shop that it could be done for an extra $150.00 US.

(Ouch.)

Mine are a recent pair - if I am reading history correctly, less than a year old (I bought them second-hand), and appear to be the current color offering. With the Meltonian Brick cream, they really hit a very nice color.

erri, just because you just recently received them does NOT necessarily mean they're not old stock. Aldens can sit on a shelf a LONG time in certain sizes before being sold to a customer.

We had a member receive a pair of NOS brown a year or two back that were definitely made in the same time period as the ones used in Raiders, at least color wise. We're talking about 20+ years on those sitting in stock. It happens. It they don't get orders for a particular size, the shoes sit. They're not going to rot or anything, so they just wait in factory inventory until they're finally pulled for sale.

Pray paint, the divine color additive? Or are you just praying for the color to change? ;)

Michaelson, now that I've seen your post about NOS, I wonder how old my new boots are... :-k

No, no, you've got it wrong. You're supposed to read it fast so all the words blend together. That way, it sounds like "usepraypaint." Don't you know anything?

When I read it all together, I get 'I-you-spraypaint'. I don't want you to paint me! That couldn't have been what you were thinking...right? 8-[

(It is nice to know for once that the smell isn't coming from us...)

Agreed - prune away. And we apologize if it appears we think that's easy to do...if not, and this isn't TOO cluttered, leave it or not. ;)

Back on topic...a fair amount of the Brick Meltonian polish has worn away from my boots, giving it interesting color variations and highlights. Between that and some slightly darker water marks, they are starting to look distressed in a hurry. I'd rather then didn't look NEW anyway, but I know I'll have to treat them again at some point to keep them healthy.

Bink, are you keeping yours 'monotone', or do you get that color range as well?

Mine have darkened in places from wear and treatment. Some of the darker areas happen around the creases in the leather. I rather like how mine are looking these days.
