4 months in the making... My new LID!
I had the pleasure of joining some of the finest people this year on board the Queen Mary and during the "Fedora Lounge" dinner event there where prizes handed out much like during the "COW " dinner event. Well I ended up winning a $300.00 custom made fedora from Art Fawcett. So after dinner I had a chance to talk to Art alone and told him I was really looking to get a new Indy Fedora and he informed me he had never made an "Indy Fedora" before and wasn't going to make any promices but he'll see what he could do. So after 4 months of me getting updates from PM's and Art sending me this odd disc shape item I had to put on my head to measure it...this arrived on my doorstep today.
As soon as I saw that sticker I was like a kid on Christmas morning... I ripped open the box to find-
After opening the plastic inside the box I found this though-
The sweatband had my initinals punched into it. It is truly an amazing work of art. I'm am so pleased with it. Hope you all like it too. ART if this indeed is your first attempt at an Indy hat... well what can I say "My hats off to you."
The reason there are no pictures of me wearing it is because I have yet to block it... and to be honest I'm a little scared too I'm afraid I'll screw it up. Help?

Well as far as blocking it goes I mean I have to "set" the pinch in and fix the brim the way I want it to look it's just flat now. I put it on and was going to talk a picture of me but decided I looked more "Witness" Harrison Ford then "Indiana Jones" Harrison Ford and didn't want someone to point that out.

I might tinker with the shape a bit (I may be looking at it wrong mind you, but it looked like the back of the center dent could run a bit deeper) I agree that it does not appear to need a reblock, but I'm no fedora master... hopefully Mr. Delk will catch this thread and give his opinion...

Um not really sure what your looking for as far as a discription Hem...? Ask me questions and I might be able to help. I know it 100% Beaver Brown felt, and it's super soft. Other then that what else would you like to know?

Doc,
As you probably know, Fedora is my hatter. Whenever I need something, I go to him.
However, I have admired Art's work and there is one type of hat that Fedora chooses not to do: the bound edged fedora.
If ever I were to order a hat from Art, it would have a bound edge.
So, I was just curious what the felt was like: does it have a lustre or is it a flat color? Is it pounded thin or does it have a heft? Is it silk smooth or a bit tactile like velvet? Would you consider the hat to be heavy or light?
Thanks buddy! I am just really curious.
Regards,
HJ

Okay Hem here goes nothing I'll try and answer them the best I can...
Does it have a lustre or is it a flat color?
Under the light it diffentally picks up the light and has a dark shine to it (don't know if that's really how to describe it though)
Is it pounded thin or does it have a heft?
I would have to say some where in the middle. The Brim is thin yet the crown is thicker I guess. Now that could be a novice talking but with the liner in I really can't see the thickness of the crown.
Is it silk smooth or a bit tactile like velvet?
It's SUPER soft kinda like cashmere diffentally not smooth like silk but smoother then velvet. I have a slight paper cut on my finger and normally it gets snagged on my Disney Fedora (you know what I mean?) but not on Art's
Would you consider the hat to be heavy or light?
Now this one is tough.... from coming off a Disney yeah this things heavy... I don't think it'll blow off my head if that's what you mean. But not heavy enough to be unconfortable. Feels kinda like the Adventurebuilt did when I tried it on board the QM. You won't forget your wearing a hat that's for sure.
I hope this helps. And if you get a chance swing over to Fedora Lounge and ask Art these things. He'll be a way better help then me I hope.
You'll see the hat in November I'm sure... You are coming to the Summit again right? I own you a drink... or you might owe me one depending on who throws the challenge coin first my friend.
