If Paul Bunyan were an Indy gearhead, he might want one

Bags, Boots, Shirts and all other gear should be discussed here.

Have you ever thought a Zippo was a little small? Have you ever wanted a real man's Zippo? Well, while not a Zippo, here is the appropriate lighter: 6.5 inches tall and 1.7 pound heavy, fully functional.

Note the 1941 Replica Zippo for size comparison.

You can see a US penny for size comparison.

WHOSE IDEA WAS THIS?

A couple months ago, one of you guys approached me with the idea of making clover badges for the giant lighter that he had recently bought. Unfortunately I lost many of my personal messages a while ago and can't remember which one of you guys commissioned this thing! Making the badges took me longer than I thought, because I worked on them only when I found some free time. If you are still interested, please get back to me, as I have a second set of badges. Which brings me to the next point. There will be only two of these lighters. The commissioned one, and mine. That's right, I couldn't pass up the opportunity and I bought such a huge lighter on ebay.

The badges

I made only two sets. Each badge set consist of 68 handcut pieces. The badges are 1/8 inch thick and made from white polystyrene. The clover is inlaid in resin. Cutting and glueing all those parts was very time-intensive and is not something I want to do again.

Does that thing actually work?

It sparks just fine and I have all eason to belive that it will fire up if filled with lighter fluid. It even sounds like a Zippo when you flip it open, only it's much louder. That lighter could be used as a table top lighter, but considering that it will take about a pint of lighter fluid, this is an expensive and possibly dangerous proposition. I'll be using mine as a display piece.

I thought I should share those pictures and give you a good laugh.

Cheers,

I have that same large zippo! Wow, looks much better with those badges

And the lighter works very well... my flame was about 4 inches high and 3/4 inch wide.

The photo with the penny is nice for scale, but I want to see someone holding this in their hand in full gear! :D

Kind regards,

I'm hoping Mike will volunteer and pose in gear with the lighter. This thing is big enough to burn down any castle, and I mean ANY castle! :P

I will do a pose in full gear with the lighter... not a problem. I'm just thinking of the scene from Crocodile Dundee... "That's not a knife, this is." Now it's "That's not a lighter, this is..."

I owe the board some pics as well. It's actually kinda tough to get pictures done when everyone you know thinks your strange because of this hobby.

agent5, you got a PM.

Dalexs, I'm sure some light insert could be jerry-built with a few D-cells and a halogen bulb. How about putting a strap on the lighter and using it as a satchel?

Snake, that's a great shirt and I'll see about getting that pic taken soon. Did you happen to find a high res. of the image at work?

That'd be kinda cool to carry around in an MKVII. It looks like it can fit... :)

Yeah, at that point, it's called a maglite. Stick 2 or 3 of those 2 AA sized lights in there and you're all set
