Cabella Safari Shirt Sizing?

I received my Cabella's Safari shirt yesterday and it looks great. My only problem is that the shirt runs big. My chest is 42" and according to the size chart on their site that is a large. When I put the shirt on I was swimming in it.

My question: Has anyone with a 42" chest had the same problem? Should I exchange it for a Medium or have the shirt taylored to fit better? My first reaction was to return it for a medium but I don't know how the mediums run. If I had it taylored to fit I think it might look better over all. Any thoughts? Sorry for this "newbie" question.

I'm a 42" regular and I always get a medium in Cabela's shirts. They fit me the best - sleeve length, collar and all.

I got the medium tall, which is great for me, since I like a sure tuck.

I wear a large in most shirts and I bought the same size in the Cabela's and it fits fine in the chest and sleeves but the problem I have is that the waist wants to balloon out if I don't keep tucking it in every so often.

I don't know if going a size down would prevent that or not.

Well I went ahead and ordered a medium. My LL Bean Sepia chinos arrived today as well. They fit like a glove. All I need is a Wested...and a AB fedora. Guess my Wal-mart fedora will have to work for now.

Those wearguards are not bad. I had a few of them. The material tends to be thin. The 100% cotton shirts "pill" real bad after a wash or two and keep that thing 100 miles from a dryer...then shrink! Only line dry. Otherwise a good shirt. I'll give the cabela shirt one more chance.

I bought a medium in ’04. I went by the size chart (against my better judgment). After about four of five months of wear (about once a week with a wash in between) I noticed it had shrank. So much so that it was very uncomfortable, tight under the arms, and the sleeves were to short. I bought a large just before Halloween ’05. I’ve been wearing it the same amount, once a week. It’s slightly baggy, not bad, but I’ll take that over constricting any day of the week. I am broad shouldered, and I don’t normally tuck in my shirt.

Might I suggest ordering one of each, then returning the one you don’t want. They’re good about taking stuff back, the only down side is you would have to pay postage on the one you don’t want.

I'm actually looking for a thinner material shirt because my Cabela's is a little thicker than what I was looking for.


I've seen a few shirts that I'm looking at and the weargaurd ones are at the top of my list for alternate Indy shirts.

LOL See I went with the size chart as well and the shirt was way to big. A large is for a 42" - 44" chest but the shirt measuresalmost 24" across. It just looked sloppy. I prefer a slimmer fitting shirt. But that's just me.

The body of the shirt fit good, it was just under the arms was uncomfortably tight and the sleeves were way to short. The large is a little baggier on me than I like, but I can live with it in order to be comfortable. What they need is a size in between a medium and a large. That would be perfect.
