loose turks head knot...how to fix?

Post by kriegfeld jr »

Hi everyone. I haven't written in a very long time. Now I come to you all asking for some help. My 10' DM turks head is a little loose at the bottom where it meets the wrist loop. It is so loose in fact that I can see white thread underneath the head. I would like to tighten it up myself but I don't want to risk messing it up worse. I live in Seattle so I suppose I could see "the man" and ask him to tighten it up for me. If he doesn't do that sort of thing I would wonder what else to do...any suggestions?

That's a common problem with the style of knot that DM uses on the butts of his whips.

One thing you could try is to put a little bit of super glue in the gap and push the strand back down over it. Just be careful not to put so much that it gets pushed up on the top of the strands.

You might give DM a call before going over there to see if he will do it. Let us know how it works out.

If you don't want to do the glue thing, and DM won't tighten it, I'm sure any of the whipmakers on this forum, including myself, would be happy to tighten the knot for you.

Well I just got back from DM. He fixed it and didn't even charge me for it. The knot is as tight as it was when I first recieved it. I'm sorry I don't have pics...I still don't know how to put them on the sight. Maybe I'll try image shack or some thing like that. As a side note, DM told me that the reason he didn't put his whips in the last catalog was because he wasn't sure he would be making them anymore. He told me that roos are being harvested for their meat and that the supply for skins has gone to a few select tanners. He's not sure how much more of the heavy skins he will be getting. That would be too bad if he had to quit making Indy whips. I guess I'm glad I bought mine when I did. Thanks for the tips on the whip fix!

If Morgan stops making Indy bullwhips, anybody who owns one will have an instant collectible on their hands. It'll be like owning a Da Vinci painting, and you could name your price should you ever care to sell.
