Adventure Watch? PLEASE HELP :( Need Sage Advice:)

Post by IndyTaz »

G'day folks,
This isn't really Indy gear I suppose but it certainly is relevant:)

I wanna buy one of those cool brown leather watch protectors. Ya know? The ones that have this leather cover with a button (I think) that goes over a watch. Any ideas on the watch to buy would be good too ha ha. What do you call these things? Military watch protectors? Anyone got a good link ect? Please :) Desperate to spend Christmas money:)

Regards
TAZ

I can't give you a real advice, but i think that's an interesting topic, and i wonder what kind of watch Indy would use...

This thread had some interesting variations, if you haven't seen it...but not exactly what you are describing:
viewtopic.php?t=14351&highlight=watch+protector

I've seen a lot of Timex watches out lately that can switch from being a banded watch to a timepiece watch...I thought they also made one w/ a cover, but I'm coming up blank at the moment.

I seem to recall them simply being called watch covers. I picked up a couple about 20 years ago that were made in Israel, as well as a South African plastic version, but since ballistic nylon and velcro became all the rage I haven't seen any new leather ones. Personally, I hate the nylon and velcro covers as they make too much noise when you pull them open. Not tactically "sound," if you know what I mean.

You know, you may be in the best part of the world to track those down, I always considered leather watch covers to be more of a Commonwealth thing as opposed to American. Have you tried whatever passes for surplus stores down there?

They should be rather simple to make, though. In fact, that other thread mentioned above may have included some posts where folks were thinking of making up new ones that would have included a full "trench watch" style strap with a snap off cover. I don't think anything ever came of it. A shame, really, as I would have bought one.

Cheers!

A Broad Arrow watch either vintage or new would fit nicely in the watch strap you are describing. I have a new version.
I believe the IDF uses watch straps like you are talking about. See what kind of military watches Israel uses.

Good luck,

:D Wow!!! Thanks folks...especially Baggers, Prof. Ed. Some really helpful info there. Now I have a great place to start. It's funny Magnoli hasn't made reproduction watch covers lol.

Thanks a million

PS I'll keep you posted on my finds :)

Hmm...something like this?
http://www.israelmilitary.com/index.php ... 3d8b9db701

If that doesn't take you right to it, click 'watch covers' on the left side. They have a whole page of leather covers.

They area all embossed w/ one logo or another...some are vague enough to pass for old WWI / WWII logos. I'll keep looking for blanks...

J

P.S. Now that I've seen exactly what they are, we could make these EASILY...

Here's one of the Israeli covers I bought years ago. I hope it displays better on everyone else's monitors better than mine:

As you can see, it just snaps over the watchband. The hardest part would making the bowl shaped cover.

You could also make a trench watch strap with the cover attached to it as well.

Cheers!
