After some years of search I now found my favourite Alden alternative :

I think it's the best I've seen for that price! :D

Both those look good, my favoright close enough boots come from sears for super cheap... they look good though I've never found an online link to them from sears... viewtopic.php?t=14207

I find that tweeds are easy to pickup at goodwills and thrift stores but that's a good find for a new tweed...

I looked again, couldnt find those boots but I did find these:

I beleive they are pricier and a bit farther from acurate than the ones I got but I liked 'em

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for $70 you can find much closer looking boots. (like the one's RustyJones posted) or the two pairs of J crews I'm selling in the ForSale section, or various others that have been posted. (search for my 3 top close enough boots post for pictures of the JCrews and Red Wings) Those are ok, but look like hunting boots to me.

The jacet is nice though.

Not a bad looking boot. I got this pair from them a couple of years ago. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=61621

They are pretty good boots. Although not screen accurate, the styling is period accurate.

Rusty Jones I have those same boots from Sears. Wear em almost everyday to work. I think its a good-looking inexpensive Alden alternate. The Land's End ones don't look bad either.

Harris Tweed is the finest tweed available in the world and Jos. A. Banks has Harris Tweed on sale.

Just so you'll know, Harris Tweed is protected by an act of British Parliament and all Harris Tweed garments will have a Harris Tweed tag with the Orb and Cross logo indicating that it has been certified by the Harris Tweed Authority that it was handspun and hand woven by the people of the Outer Hebrides Islands.

in preparation for the movie (and because my English semester is finally ending so I have a little time to read what I want) I started reading the DaVinci Code and in the first handful of chapters (I'm amazed, the book is a little hefty but the chapters are all like 2 pages) it mentions Rober Langdon as being described in a magazine like "Harrison Ford in Harris Tweed" which seemed relevant... I thought It might be cool if they cast ford in the role himself but he's a bit old I guess and I'm a Tom Hanks fan anyway... so its all good
