Oh My Gosh! ....Gulp!
Well folks...I am finally taking the plunge. I have saved up enough dosh for my first Wested+trousers+shirt. How the heck does one wade through the gusset, action back and lining talk? Sigh...I just wanna "Raider's" Jacket that fits the best and is like the movie. Plus the best addons. Would some kind person mind helping me start out so I don't have to take hours to read? Yes I'm lazy...but I also have 4 kids and not that much time
Thanks
TAZ

You could do worse than look at Hems new jacket as a guide to measurements. Then you are on your own! So many conflicting opinions, maybe just go with a standard!
Here's mine:
Raiders length if you really want it, it will look short to most people in the street.
Tapered sleeves if you have slim wrists. (Me like)
Gussets if you fancy them! (Me like too!)
X box stitching, aways useful.
No zipper facing, drapes more screen accurate.
80's cut... only if your shape allows!
Lamb or goat, your call!
Authentic or Dk brown, your call!
Satin/cotton, your call!
Collar - if getting a TOD or LC and less than a 44 maybe ask for a Raiders collar.
That's my 2d!

Hi Indy Taz.
Congrats on the upcoming purchase. I lost hair worrying about gussets, elastic, length, etc.
The most important thing is getting a proper measurement. I recommend a tailor.
As for the fancy add-ons, I have had my Wested for a while and forgot what I ordered! I have a lambskin Raiders jacket, dark metal sliders. No extra pocket. That is all I remember!
These custom jackets are a very subjective thing. You can add or exclude at will! Good luck and keep us posted.

I received my TOD jacket a couple of months ago and I love it. A previous poster said the ROTLA jacket was short and they weren't kidding. The TOD is supposed to be longer and I am wondering if I shouldn't have ordered it a little longer. I know that some people have run into issues with the brass d-rigs but mine haven't moved at all and I like the look of them better. I went with goat and it is really a nice leather, strong but very supple. I also went with the dark brown. One thing I would have asked for is the zipper to go down the full length of the coat, it seems a little short. I also opted not to go with the press studs on the storm flap (I think that is what it is called), and I might have asked for those too. I didn't get gussets and my jacket moves fine, so I don't miss them. At the end of the day, whatever you decide to go with, you will LOVE the jacket. Any complaints you might have will be far in the back of your mind once you have the jacket. It really is quite an amazing piece of workmanship.
Taz,
I hope this helps ...
I just ordered my second Wested today, having learned some lessons after ordering my first.
1.) X-Box stitching. Yeah, you need it. Get it. Period.
2.) Two-piece Underarm gussets. You don't NEED need these, but they help. If you don't get them, you will raise your arms up with the jacket on one day, and the whole jacket will come with it. It's kind of comical. The gussets reduce this. Not eliminate it, just reduce it. Just a personal thing.
3.) Custom measurements. Measure yourself, and send them the measurements. This never was a factor for me, because it's what I did the first time. You will hate it if you get off the rack sizes, and they isn't exactly what you want. Custom measurements are better.
4.) Lamb for costume, Goat for daily wear.
5.) Anodized black sliders for screen accuracy.
There ya go.
Marc, where are you? I want to see these "two pages of specs".

Hey I got a Raider's wested that feels a hair long, is the 'Raider's length' you speak of there standard on the Raider's or a request (Its mainly just a conflict with the holster when its empty...)Kt Templar wrote: Raiders length if you really want it, it will look short to most people in the street.

You could sling your holster a belt notch lower?Rusty Jones wrote: Hey I got a Raider's wested that feels a hair long, is the 'Raider's length' you speak of there standard on the Raider's or a request (Its mainly just a conflict with the holster when its empty...)
My point is, and it may be heretical (!). A proper Raiders fit, ie just below the web belt line, can look too short for day to day wear. An inch or two more ie. TOD or LC looks more comfortable.
I think a good length/compromise is the rule of thumb many people use; measure to just above your back trouser pockets when determining the back length.
Sorry, heretical is my word of the day after reading the Da Vinci thread here! .

thanks, It does even work okay with it on a lower notch or pulled around sometime, we actually esablished in another thread I beleive that it looks like (in some shots) the raider's jacket is petty long:
http://www.theraider.net/showimage.php? ... ns/r44.jpg
Do not in this pic, how far down the collar is, towards the begining of the movie we see his Wested's collar is bent outward (an effect I'm working to acheive on my coat) and it makes actually takes an inch or more off the length at the bottom depending on how far farward to pull the collar...
there was a better picture that actually looks about like mine fits but I cant find it, its the one where Indy's walking through the Idol Cave and you can see jacket actually covers the top of his holster, at the angle of the picture, and with ford's size, it looks okay though...

OoooH, you had to use that pic! Don't you know how much trouble that pic causes! (Note that pic is flipped - see the bow on his hat and the door to the bar opens the other way.)
You are right the jacket does look a lot longer here but that's because it is open his arm is stretched out and his weight is on the front foot. All jackets will hang lower if you do this.
