Sleeve Lining Pros /Cons
I've had both sleeve linings on Wested jackets and can't decide which I like better for my future jacket.. my observations are:
Satin: slides over long sleeved shirts better but feels cold initially if wearing a short sleeved shirt. That may be an advantage in warmer wearther though. Slightly heaviers feel to it(Maybe ?). Satin somehow makes the jacket feel "nicer" (I know, that one's weird)
Cotton: Feels really light weight with my Lambskin (really like that), warmer in cold weather, bunches when going over long sleeves.

As easy as the satin lined sleeves make the jacket easy to take on and off, I always had the problem that the jacket tended to slide off my arms with wear, and I was constantly fighting just to keep the jacket up on my shoulders. Unless it was zipped up, it was a constant battle. I only owned one jacket with these satin linings. I've stuck with cotton lining or it's equivalent ever since.

I've got a full cotton lining also. I've only had the jacket for about a month and it's been pretty cool during that time, so I can't say how it feels in the warmer months and haven't had satin sleves to compair it to. (well, my US Wings was satin but was also much looser fiting, but didn't notice any sticking in warm weather)
It pushes up loose long sleeves which rather annoys me. I like the color though. I think I'd go for the satin sleeves/cotton body if I had a choice.

I have an all satin lined ToD lamb. I don't have any problem with it sliding around. In fact for where I live, the satin is just too sticky even when it's only moderately warm. I inquired about getting Wested to change the lining and they said they would but I ultimately decided to go with a new jacket with an all cotton lining. Personally, I'm not concerned about warmth (I always layer if I need to) but I have to have something that breathes. With even a moderate degree of warmth and humidity the satin will stick to you like a Hefty bag.

True. Neither lining was made for warmth...just comfort or ease of pulling on and off. Leather jackets, unless lined, have always been made specifically for protection against outside weather. If you wanted warmth, you layered clothing beneath the jacket.
If you're trusting these to keep you warm without that layered sweater in cold weather....they won't, and they were never designed to do so without a separate insulating liner, which satin and cotton is not.

No, believe me i know neither is going to keep you warm (I've had both) but what I'm saying is that the feel of satin is colder to the touch during cooler weather than cotton.. and for that matter (apparently) it's hotter and sticky-er than cotton in warmer weather. So, since I'm in Texas I'll probably ask for cotton sleeve lining for my next one. Thanks guys.

I've always wondered about the lining of the Wested jackets. I have the all cotton lining and I wish I had ordered the satin/cotton combo. My pet-peeve is that I find (at least in mine I don't know about anyone else's) that the cotton lining color is not screen accurate. Of course, it was only after I had made the order that I learned that the Raiders' jacket was all satin. I think, if I were to get another Wested, it'd have to have the satin/cotton combo. That being said, is the satin lining offered by Wested screen-accurate in color?

Are you sure the screen jackets were all satin? I'm sure I've seen some publicity photos and the lining looks cotton to me.
Anyway here's my all satin lining with a cotton pocket to compare. I really like the satin, it gives the jacket a luxurious feel, it does get warm at higher temps but I don't wear it much over about 70ºf anyway.
I think the satin is probably too deep/saturated too be screen accurate and so is the cotton actually.

You know, I noticed that my vintage Wested's cotton liner was a lighter shade of brown than my recent jacket (goat)..but I sort of thought that it was because that jacket had been thoroughly soaked from rain a few times and that process caused the lining to loose some of it's color.. but I'm starting to doubt that really because none ever bled onto a shirt or anything.. More than likely the shade was lighter to start with. I know this sounds rediculous but for some reason I prefer the lighter shade - I know it's crazy.

Are you shure the lining was cotton? I always thought it was too, but looking at Raiders (as well as the other movies) and some of the publicity stills and such, I thought it was decided that the lining was satin. It certianly looks satin in most shots too me. But hey, my "calculations have been known to be wrong ....

I'm pretty sure I've read that the Raiders jacket had the cotton lining. However, I think the LC jacket was satin. Can't say about ToD though.Indiana Neri wrote:Are you shure the lining was cotton? P.S. My calculations are wrong most of the time. Just ask my chemisty professor.
