Well, Guys, I've Done It !

Tonight, without the aid of alcoholic support, I sat down and cut the brim and, I must say, it doesn't look too bad to me. Didn't need to use a hobby knife to tidy up, just sandpaper. 1/8 inch really does make a difference. I'm having a few problems with steaming the brim. I can't stop it being wavy at the back; I've been working my way round from the sides curling it as I go but the problem is where the curls meets up at the back - it comes out with a kink and it just moves along the brim as I try to straighten things out.
Anyway, just as you fellows said, cutting the brim was no big deal. Thanks a lot to you all for the advice and encouragement.

Congratulations!

Sounds like it went well, post a picture if you get the chance. I'm sure we'd all like to see it!

Good job! We knew you could do it. No have a drink anyway, just to celebrate! I'd wear it around like that for a while to see how the hat suits you, but yes, it is incredible how much difference an eigth of an inch on the brim is!
