Cinched Ribbon: Cairo
Here is my AB with cinched ribbon. Check Fedora's most recent thread for theory. I basically un-did my ribbon and re-attached it, tighter.

I hate to say this,,but it looks a little silly . I think we are going to extremes to artificially duplicate something that happened through natural distressing(I'm saying natural loosely, here. I know they distressed the hat, but it also went through the rigors of filming, Harrison messing with it, heat, humidity, etc.) Doing it this way to a brand new looking lid just doesn't quite get the same effect as a hat that looks like it has been through h-e-l-l, and is still being worn. After thinking about it a bit .....
Couldn't everything that's been said in this thread have been said in this thread with all the same results as we see here? With all due respect intended, I don't think posting a completely new thread was necessary, when the another perfectly good thread (with the same pic posted in it too) was already there.
JMO, so feel free to disregard and continue on!

Strider,
To me that's like saying that Steve should have put his posts for that topic in $3k's thread. He is disputing the pork-pie theory.
I am exploring the channel/mushroom/Cairo look. I don't want it to get lost in another thread. I put it in Steve's thread as well, because he had posted a pic of his cinched hat. Therefore, I figured others would want to see the AB that I had cinched.
Okay, here is my Akubra. I pulled the sweatband out and cinched the ribbon tight. This created a pretty dang good Cairo effect. Not exact, but perhaps a better felt would respond differently. I will have to wonder, because I am not ripping the sweatband out of my AB.

As for that Akubra, you got a serious channel going on there after you cinched it up. Perhaps this IS the key.
That Akubra is a keeper! It is amazing what cinching the ribbon will do, especially when the leather is removed. Like I said, I have a couple of hats just like this. Can't beat em' for these high humidity summers that we have in the South. Sure, the sweat stains the ribbon badly, but, that is accurate!! Fedora
