What do you wear your AB with? Part II

Post by prairiejones »

Since I got my AB in September, I am just now getting to wear it with a coat. Here I am wearing it with an old friend. It's not a Wested, but it's mine and I've had it for going on eleven years. I have to admit that I am happy with the look.

Cool! You know, the black jacket is a good excuse to buy a grey AB.

Did someone say Gray AB?
That looks great, Prairie. You probably know that motorcycle and aviator jackets were two branches of the same tree. That is a natural fit.

I wear my AB, the gray one with my Wested, but also with my gray trenchcoat, my black cashmere double-breasted topcoat, my black trenchcoast, and my greenish topcoat. The brown works great also.

Sometimes, I wear one of my ABs with a tweed sportcoat. This gives me a certain "Country Gentleman" look. The hats are very versatile.

Then someone likes the secondary spelling of "Gray," preferred by the Brittish. Gray is the primary spelling. You don't spell "Graying" greying. You don't spell "Grayscale" greyscale. Gray matter is Gray matter.

You can spell it anyway you like, but "grey" is a variant of "Gray" and will always be so. :D

I'm definitely in the market for a gray in the next six months. I want to make sure Steve has it in the lightweight felt. I want it to be a little floppier. But, so far the brown is working with everything. I also have been wearing it with a black peacoat and a tan Carhart. I should have a chance on the 5th to wear it with a dark gray over coat.

The ribbon is so dark on the brown that you can wear it with black coats and it looks great. Gray is nice with suits alone, if the suits are gray, blue, or pin-striped.

It's no mix up, Weaver. It's all about usage and you have your choice. Personally, I like to keeps things consistent. I have been studying English, linguistics, and English usage my entire life, and I am a bit OCD as a result.

So much confusion over a COLOUR!

(Post Scriptum-I know...gray isn't a color).

I think 'light black' is a good substitution, but no one ever agrees.

pp, good looking combination, and I agree with HJ's suggestion that you consider looking into obtaining one of the AB 'light black' (gray  ) versions. I've had mine a bit longer than HJ has had his, and find it works with EITHER a black or brown jacket with no clashes what so ever.

I usually wear mine with my US Authentic A-2. I think it's a good combination...KC

My primary jacket is a Navy issue G-1, dark brown, goat, fur collar, etc... Brown AB looks great with it, sorry no pic handy but give me a week. I have wore my brown hat with darker shades of pants and it looks fine, especially with a dark brown boot. I know, dark brown shoes and black pants may be improper, but I am not talking about dress clothes here, jeans and casuals. I have found myself however wearing more khaki shades just to match better with my hat, (can a hat really have that sort of power over a person and his wardrobe....? :? ) To be better rounded, I do have a gray/grey/light black AB arriving very soon that I'll post.
