MKVII Foils Bag-Snatch!

Hello! Forgive me if this is the wrong section, but it is a testament to how rugged the MKVII and my Lost-Ark strap really are...

About a month ago I ordered an original MKVII from WPG. The bag was in perfect condition, but a week later the bit securing the ring started to give way (dry-rot). I contacted Todd and he was nice enough to send me out some replacement webbing. In the meantime, I decided to wear the bag anyway, as only a little of the webbing had given way.

One day, not too long ago, I was wearing my MKVII outside (sans jacket) while on my lunch break when suddenly someone on a bike bumped into me (that is what I thought at the time) and my bag got caught up somehow on his bike. The collision was hard enough to spin me around.

What really happened was that a crusty hippie/messenger type on a bike decided to to the ol' grab and run. To his dismay, the bag strap didn't give way, and he actually fell off the bike before he could let go.

I was a bit surprised and dazed - I didn't realise what had happened - not to mention a bit cross. I asked the dreadlocked gent what the *@"& was going on, and the lout actually threatened me with a bike pump as he scrambled to jump back on the bike and speeding off. I couldn't get it through my head why he was so desperate to get away - it wasn't like I'd threatened him from the start!

It wasn't until I calmed down that onlookers told me what had really happened, and it is apparently quite common here in London.

In spite of the dry-rot, the MKVII and the strap (lost-ark) held their ground against a devious individual on a bike!

The guy was just similarly attired... with pseudo-dreads...

Seriously Matei,

Glad you are alright before anything else, but also glad the strap helped
foil the attacker.

It amazes me both what people will try to pull instead of earning an honest buck, and how well Indy Gear foils their attempts.

Keeping my wallet in the cargo pocket of my Wested once stopped my pocket from being picked.

That happened to me but with my Wested. I had it hanging over the side of a bag I was carrying and some guy bumped into me trying to lift it, but it was stuck in the bag and he couldn't get it out. I didn't even notice until I was a block away and saw the jacket dragging on the grond. He'd almost gotten it. Once I noticed what he had tried to do he was already too far away to deal with.

Now you know if it happens again to just start kicking the person in the head. I'm the type that says they deserve whatever they get coming to them if they take other peoples stuff.

On an interesting note, a man was killed here in the US years ago by a large group of people who saw him snatch an old ladies purse who then ran him down and beat him to death. When the cops go there they asked what happened. Apparently nobody saw anything and nobody was charged. Justice had been served.

Hmmm... I was a bit angry that the guy had the nerve to threaten me with his tyre pump after he bumped into me.

If I had known he had tried to lift my bag at the time my reaction would've been different - but not enough to beat the guy to death!

Now the bad guy who broke into my (ex) flat back in July... I'd have to think about that one!

I'll second that Strider! I don't know about death for snatching a purse. However, a free trip to the ER (Multipule contusions, a few broken ribs, etc) seems fair.

It's my opinion that the guy should not have been doing what he was doing to begin with. I'm sure we can all agree on that. I just think that when commiting crime, perpetrators should not have any expected reaction from victims who try to defend themselves. You have to accept that whatever happens is because you are doing something you shouldn't have been doing in the first place.
Yes, a mob murder is a bit much, but he should expect whatever came his way for commiting a crime. If he hadn't have done what he did, he'd still be alive. Period.

Just ***** to be him.
