I bouhgt this mkvii because the strap seemed very old to me, and the seller, an army surplus lady, made no reference to Indy at all. The strap seems very old any Ideas? http://photobucket.com/albums/b129/illi ... y%20stuff/

The strap looks like a Noel Howard (judging by the rivets), but the bag looks like a MKVI to me. Nice catch.

I disagree about it being an MK VI, could be wrong but look at the strap holders, they are rings, the MK VI had D-rings. This is also a 1941 W&G. They produced the MK VI in 1942 as I recall. Illinois

MKVI predate MKVII.

The 1941 is the date the W&G company started business.

This is a MKVI. You can tell by the small D-rings on the front of the bag for the chest string (look at the right hand edge of the bag in the picture) & also the zig-zag stitching pattern on the left side of the bag in the picture. That stitching pattern does not appear on MKVII.

Also, OK there are loads of variations on these MKVII, I've not seen a W&G MKVII with those n****e popper fastenings before. The W&G MKVII I have & I have seen all have/had snaps with a plain (untextured) cap.

Hope that helps 8) Nice bag anyway :D

I've had a MKVII with those snaps - I think the early 1941 bags had them. BUt this is clearly a MKVI as Skippy has correctly pointed out.

I just thought it was interesting to see an MKVI with what could possibly be a NH strap... I have only heard of them being with MKVII, but have never actually seen one in person.

My MK VI has round strap holders.

Not sure about the NH strap either, I'd have to see better pictures. I've got one here for comparison. When there are pictures though. :D My NH isn't nearly that dark, I'll have to look at it again to check for the rivits. (I know it has one instead of the screw to fasten it on)

It's cool that it has a leather strap though. Maybe it's a stunt ToD bag! Or maybe it's a real rifle sling strap.
