"Indy Jacket" from Burlington Coat Factory
Here are front and back shots of a jacket I bought from Burlington Coat Factory during their grand opening sale where I live. The jacket's regular retail price is $72 (at least that's what they claimed) but I only spent $35 for it and even that price was stretching it.
While I was browsing through the store this jacket caught my eye right away because of the color and the "Indyness" of it if you will. This jacket is what rekindled my "quest" to recover all my Indy gear that I had as a kid and eventually out grew.
Now even though this jacket pockets are all wrong and the cuffs have vertical zippers I still feel this is somehow a knockoff Indy jacket. The sides have the straps and the jackets zipper zips up from the left and not the right like the Wested.
I don't know what kind of leather they used and I can't even say for sure that it is leather. It is very light weight and allows for alot of movement...like if your in a bar fight.
All in all it's a great spring / summer / early fall jacket.
Anyway...here's the pics for your amusement.

Yeah, it's a decent light summer evening type jacket. Infact, I kind of imagine you wouldn't want to wear a jacket any heavier than this if you were in some South American jungle.
The new Burlington Coat Factory is located in the old K-Mart building at ParkWest. They gutted that building. Took half of it and made Burlington an made the other half smaller shops that have yet to be leased by anyone.
Along with that their now talking about building MORE stores just a little west of that building. Like Fort Wayne needs anymore retail stores! It's bad enough some of the local Dj's already call us "Fort Walmart".

bink
Yeah, just as long as their not all the same thing. Jefferson Pointe is doing well and they've got some unique shops that are nice to have. From what I've been hearing we are supposed to be getting a Macy's but I don't know if their taking over the Marshall Fields building or Ayres was going to become Macy's.
They are putting in a few more Walmarts too. One near New Haven, out off of Lima road and one out were South Town was.

More Walmarts? Surprise, surprise.
Anyhow, I don't want to stray too far off topic here, so I'll ask some more pertinent questions. Does your new jacket have any labels whatsoever giving hint to what it's made of? And is it a little predistressed? It looks like it in the pictures. I like the color of the jacket.

Yes. As a matter of fact it does have a label near the collar. It says it's made by N.D.X Nederland. I don't think it means "Netherland" either I think that's the right spelling for whoever this company is that made the jacket.
I like the color too. That's one of the things that caught my eye and yeah it's a predistressed look or fade to it.

Thanks. I tried to rush collecting all the stuff BEFORE Halloween so I'd have something to wear with the kids. The whip and the holster were the only stuff I had already. I had to buy everything else. It wasn't until after I bought this jacket that I found this site and started doing research on everything.
The olive drab web belt I bought from G.I Joes on Wells St. I had a choice between that and tan as far as Indy colors went and I choose the green because I could have swore that's what the color was in the films but I was wrong. I should have bought the tan since they did use that in LC. I also bought the map case for $15 there also. It was the closest thing I could find to the Mark VII bag. I was hoping I'd find one of those there but no such luck so I settled for that. It's pretty close if it's extanded out and not pushed back like in the photo.
The hat is the new one seen in the other topic. This was before I bashed the crown using a little water to give it that Raiders look. Although the crown was pretty fine before I did it and the lighting in this pic doesn't help much either.
I hesitated in posting this pic because my "gear" is a work in progress. I've already ordered a few things from Todd's Costumes and I'm waiting for them now. I got his "No-Slip" whip holder, the deluxe bag strap and the brown web belt. I already got the web belt but had to send it back because there was a mix up in the size of the belt and I should be getting the corrected size soon. I also plan on buying a Mark VII bag soon because I bought the strap from Todd's thinking I could attach it to the map case one and then I just started thinking "Oh, what the heck" and decided to find the authentic bag too.
My two big things though are the jacket and whip. Once I get all of this I'll have a new pic taken with all of my stuff.

I think for 35 dollars that jacket is a very good bargin.
You can use that as a good "canvas" to use items like acetone,
sandpaper and any other items you might want to use to distress your
Wested once you get. If you want to go that way.
You can use this cheap jacket to practice on, and not have to worry
about wrecking an expensive jacket down the road. You can practice
different techniques, and learn from that to perfect your Wested distressing
job.
I think its a great buy!!

Pitfal, I actually found my brown web belt at G.I. Joe's, though I'm not sure if they stock that color. You may want to ask them. Also, if you need a good Last Crusade tie, I got mine there in the back room where they keep all the surplus uniforms. I think I paid six bucks or less for it. I always tried to keep my eyes open for an actual MkVII, but they simply don't carry much international surplus. I even asked them once. Depending on your waist size, though, they have some officer pinks with pocket flaps (the perfect Indy trousers) though you may have to dig for them. I never found a size 36 waist, but I think I saw a couple pair that were smaller. Good luck!

Really. I never thought about looking for a pair of pants there or the tie. How long ago did you see the pants there? I probably missed them because I was so focused on finding the bag. Do you remember how much they were selling the pants for? I wear about a 36 waist! Is "Officer Pink" the color Indy's pants were in the films?
As far as the belt goes they had just about every color there but brown at the time. I didn't ask about brown because I was thinking I needed the olive drab color. I'm only paying about a buck or two more for the Todd web belt anyway so that doesn't bother me to much other than the waiting.

I've just been out shopping the other night and was amazed and how many leather jackets I saw are very "authentic brown" color and most were Indyish (except for the pockets and action pleats)
Your's actually has the straps too. Good find PF Harry
I also found my web belt at an Army surplus store. (actually it was online but my local one had solid brass buckles)

Thanks.
The jacket already has some distressing in it and I don't plan on doing any "early" distressing on my Wested if I get one. I'll just let it do it's thing naturally on my own adventures. ha!

I remember seeing the jacket and then going over and picking it off the rack and noticing the straps at the bottom. I was almost in shock. I couldn't remember many details about Indy's jacket except for the straps.
I apologize for the other pics. I was trying to make sure people could get a good look at the jacket and because the jacket is kind of slick the flash washed alot of it's color out in the pics.
The pic of me in the jacket is just about what the color looks like in person.
If I wasn't really going for the true Indy look I would stop with this jacket, but....I would really like to have a good durable leather jacket so I'm going to go for the Wested I think.

Thanks.Indiana_Tone wrote:Pitfall Harry, I have to say that seeing the pics of the jacket by itself didn't do much for me (the color pattern was interesting) but seeing you with it on changes everything! Talk about an eagle eye and a knack for spotting bargains! That thing looks terrific on! No joke! For 35$ it's quite a find! Good work! You thinking about stepping up to the Wested in the future?
I think it was more luck or fate with me finding this than anything else. IF I wouldn't have spotted this jacket though I would never have gotten on this quest to re-collect all of Indy's gear for myself at this age and time.
This really did rekindle my intrest in the character again. Strange isn't it?

Do you remember where in the store they have these at? Are they up front or in the back with the coats and flight suits?
I usually wear between a 36/34 or 38/34 depending on the pants.
I'm going to go down and check it out this weekend and see what they have or if they can get them in my size if they don't have them. I just hope there not to expensive. I bring home another pair of kaki type pants my wife will be using the whip on me!! I just can't seem to get the right color though. It's hard to match though because of all the different screen shots and the stone color of my shirt throws me off too.
The pants I'm wearing in the pic are from Old Navy. I got them for $20 and their no-wrinkle / stain resistant.
Oh. One more thing. Do you know of any Leather stores here in Ft. Wayne? I thought we had a place here in town that sold just leather supplies?

They're in the back with the coats and flight suits, last I remember. I've never seen them reorganize the layout of the store, so I bet they're in the same place. There should be a bunch of shelves where they stack the trousers. They're mixed in with different types, so you may need to look through them a bit. I do't think the trousers were terrible expensive, maybe under 25 bucks, but don't quote me on that.Pitfall Harry wrote:binkmeisterRick wrote:Well, Pitfal, I wear a 36 waist, too, and I can tell you that they didn't have any officer's pinks with pocket flaps in out size. Well, I plan on going there this weekend and checking them. I curious to see what these pants look like and if they have any in my size.
