Adventurebilt makes its Dallas area stage debut (Pic Added!)

The Raiders AB that Fedora made for me about six months ago will make its theatrical debut tonight in Richardson Theatre Centre's production of "Morning's at Seven" by Paul Osborn.

It all began during rehearsals when I started wearing it because I had created a lot of business involving hat tipping toward other characters on stage. After all, we were out of doors and the play does takes place in 1939, so a hat was a necessity from the start. The director liked the look of me wearng a hat and after initially saying that she would have the costume designer provide me with one, she decided she really loved the look of the AB itself and asked if I would mind using it in the show!

So, if anyone in the North Texas area is interested, Adventurebilt wil be treading the boards tonight through December 10th.

Hey, I just made two for a film documentary in South America. The chap said both would appear in the film, and I would even be listed in the credits. I did not ask what the film was about, but was promised a copy once the thing is shot and all. Since that time, I have had nightmares about the documentary being of the sort that would appear on the Playboy channel, or worse!!

One of the hats was for a female, and the other for a guy. One Raiders(hers) and one YIJ. I really need to get nosy and ask questions, but if the customer is not forthcoming, I just assume there is a reason for being so, and take the cue. Same approach with the two celebs I have made hats for. I do not want to be an info source for the National Enquirer!!

You have to offer discretion when selling hats, or anything else. Fedora

I'd guess that small firms like Wested and other contractors for film work pretty much know who their dealing with from the start. They've probably built up their list of clients from referrals and word of mouth, or even just striking out on their own after working for another costumier. It's probably a small select group and everybody knows each other. If a newcomer pops up, a couple of emails or phone calls will probably establish the newbie's bonifides.

All you can do in the absence of insider info is to trust your instincts. If they mis-represent themselves and you end up catching them out, you always have the option of never doing business with them again. In the long run, your good reputation will survive the occasional swipe from an unscrupulous customer.

But then, as long as the check cashes...

They have good taste! LOL

As long as they have cash, you don't know where the Adventurebuilt will be.

But, for one thing! They have a hand crafted Adventurebuilt on their noggin! A hat of Quality!

It is good to know that the Adventurebuilt will be in films, on stage, etc.

I always keep a positive attitude. Quality at its best!

A documentary in Africa! Hope you let us know what it will be about.

A documentary is of something that really happened, fact, a real event. I think it will be good. Please keep us informed.

Just posted one of me backstage before the show!

Don't worry Erri, I've already given the AB it's "baptism of fire" over the summer here. In 25 years I've never come even close to sweating that badly onstage!

Now some location film shoots I've been on, that's another matter...

And as for any possible makeup buildup, the theatre we're working in is so small that all I used last night was a little powder to cut down the shine.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone, our opening night went well although the audience could have been a little bigger. Still, everyone I spoke to afterwards had nothing but compliments for the show and the cast!

Thanks, It's actually a sports jacket and trousers combo. The costume designer got overwhelmed working on the the female characters, and when he finally got to me he asked if I minded using the jacket I had been wearing the last couple of rehearsals (yeah, just like the hat!

When all was said and done, the only item he supplied were the trousers. The jacket is one that I bought at Orvis last fall, the tie is a repro Afrika Korps uniform tie I picked up this summer from Lost Battalions, and -- get this -- the shirt is my Wested Indy and the shoes are my Alden 405s! Even the braces holding up the trousers are mine since he didn't have time to sew buttons inside the waistband for the theatre supplied ones and I just happened to have a set of clip-ons at home for such emergencies. Sheesh!

And Bink, the specs are Anglo American frames from the Ben Silver catalog. I've gotten almost as many compliments on them as I have the AB. Interestingly, I haven't usually worn glasses when doing stage or on camera work unless the character I was portraying required it, but after I got the Anglo Americans directors began asking me to use them even when doing "normal" gigs.

Thanks, Prairie. I'm playing David, the retired college professor. Actually, he was fired for calling the college president a moron, but I digress...

As a side note, during rehearsals we had decided that David had been a philosophy professor, but now that my costume is set I'm thinking he may really need to be a Doctor of Archeology!

Aha, I thought the way that question was phrased seemed to indicate some familiarity with the business. It's a great script. When compared to today, not a lot seems to have changed regarding family dynamics, has it?

Our Cora is played by a woman who's been working professionally for over twenty years. In fact, the majority of the cast are pros with long resumes. I feel blessed to be working with such an experienced and talented group of people.

Seriously though, thanks. I was in "to Kill a Mockingbird" as well. I played the sheriff (I forget his name. it's been a few years and my memory is failing me at the moment.)

Once you get your AB, it will spoil you for anything else!

Thanks, I really love that hat. I can't wait for Fedora to get his lighter weight bodies so I can order up a new one for spring. Now if he would just add ventilated sweats to the list of options...(hint, hint

)

As for your history prof, I sure he was a tough but fair instructor who inspired a love of the subject matter. It's a cinch he was a sharp dresser!

I don't know how familiar with the business I am, but my wife and I both have a BFA in theatre performance. So, we've done our share of "the craft."
