What do you wear your fedora with?

Post by Serial Hero »

Now that my AB is on order I have a question for all you hat wearers out there. Whether it’s an AB, Acubra, Optimo, or DP, how often do you wear your lids, and what types of cloths do wear it with? Only with a suite; Chinos and a collared shirt; or with a tee shirt, and/ or jeans?

I don't think this has been asked before, but if it has I couldn't find it.

Note to VP: please just answere the question and not just a link to a previous thread

I wear one with a suit, or with a casual 'adventure type' long sleeved, collared, solid colour cotton shirt and dockers (and often a nicer leather jacket - not a biker jacket). I never wear jeans or T-shirts anyway, but I find that look might be altogether inappropriate to wear a fed with.

A fedora might look goofy if you're weraing a turtleneck sweater too... even worse if you add a necktie to tthe ensemble.

Try poking your noggin through the neck hole rather than the sleeve and you can get the shirt all the way on and not have to wear it on your head. ;)

I feel that I can pull off just about any look, from jeans and t-shirt to various suits. I wear my fedora whenever I feel like it, which is usually most of the time.

I've been wearing my Wested jacket with jeans, my Aldens and either a Wested shirt or a Cabela's safari shirt (with replaced buttons), all primarily on weekends at our cabin, as it's been to hot here in Phoenix. Last weekend, for the first time, I added my HJ fedora to the ensemble. I haven't put ALL the pieces together -- haven't worn my Wested trousers yet -- but I will certainly do that no later than Monday. I'm planning to use the Halloween holiday to come to work "in costume" as my favorite adventure hero.

From khaki t-shirts to dresses
do you mean dress shirts, or that you wear a dress (not that there's anything wrong with that)?

Right now I have on JCrew boots, LL Bean Jeans, J. Peterman safari type shirt tails out over a red Indiana Jones tee shirt with my AB fedora firmly planted on my head. Now that the weather has cooled, a plaid flannel and my Wested Raiders lamb add to the mix. Monday (Halloween) I may just wear the complete Indy gear.

The only things a wested and fedora don't go with are: Tracksuit bottoms..that's a big no no here.

But jeans go well with both

Yeah, I guess it can be pulled off just fine. The non-sneaker shoes help a great deal. I've always thought of a fedora as something 'dressier' by far than a ball cap. It's something classy to me; but it can still look classy in jeans.

...or even a baseball barbeque get-up if you've got that 'tough guy' look down already. ;)

I weart my hats every day. With suits, jeans, casual, formal, and yes, even turtlenecks. If you can pull of wearing a fedora, you can pull it off with about anything.

If I didn't spend all my bullet dough on gimlets, I'd plug you in the thigh to show my extreme disagreement with that remark, Bink. 'course, I get a little punchy before my morning bucket of coffee, so don't take it all personal-like.

Oh, I don't take it personally. But I do wear a fedora with a lot of different types of outfits. My wife (and others) tell me I wear a fedora very well. And if half of pulling off a fedora is in the attitude of the wearer, then heck, it suits me fine with about anything. That's not to say I don't favour different hats over a fedora from time to time (like a newsboy cap).

VP, given the time difference, etc., I saw the image you posted about breakfast time. Now, I am a big Indy and Harrison Ford fan, but the sight of HF in a speedo -- with or without a fedora -- is just too much this early in the morning. Eeewwww!

I remember there was a thread about indy socks that degenerated to underwear   so i put that pic i found on google for the occasion then someone went too vulgar and the topic was closed. No personal interest in seeing Ford in speedos, it was just for a laugh

Bro, I officially love you. That picture(the portrait of Indy that you linked to)was always such an enigma until I got my AB. When I got it and bashed it, I finally had that hat. That is the hat that I was shooting for(it is the quintessence of SOC). WOW! You just gave me the best compliment on my hat with that link. :o :D 8)
