New Wested Goat

Post by matei »

Hola,

Early Saturday morning I trekked out to Swanley to pick up my new Wested. I was a bit anxious - would it fit right, would it be the right colour, would it look good?

I worried for naught, as this jacket is without a doubt the finest jacket of any type that I've ever owned! The fit is perfect, the colour spot on and the overall look is great! It is exactly what I wanted. The wife loves it, and that always makes things easier!

I orignally ordered horsehide but they were out. In a way I'm glad I went for the goat. I opted for Authentic Brown, d-rings, single gussets, x-box stitching and slightly padded shoulders. Everything else is stock and it looks fine. Peter did up the d-rings for me with the straps pointing forward and as of yet I haven't had a bit of trouble with them.

After only a few days, I've noticed that the jacket has kept me warm without overheating and cool without being cold. Compared to another short leather jacket I have (lambskin), it is much more comfortable.

Hats off to Peter & co. - for great customer service and an outstanding product. If any of you are thinking about ordering a Wested, I say go for it. You won't be disappointed!

Congratulations!

I have the authentic brown goat myself and couldn't be happier with it. It is tough as nails, so there is really no reason to baby it like I did in the beginning. You'll find out.

The goat is great! I spent yesterday day in the rain and today in the snow, but the water just rolls off. 8)

Congratulations on your jacket! I've wore a US Navy issue flight jacket in goat for many years and it has always been great. I am in the process of measuring myself to order a Wested here soon, it is good to continuously hear such high marks on them. Enjoy.

Congrats :D

What's your assessment of the benifits (or not) of the gussets?

I sold my goat a few years ago b/c the sleeves shortened up over time to just below my wrists. Even though it was the sleeves were a bit short, the jacket fit great and I used it to keep me warm during the cold Canadian Winters. I have since gotten a Lambskin, but every now and then, I kinda regret re-ordering a goat instead of lamb.

This is my first Wested, and my first leather jacket of this type with gussets. I had for a time a cowhide flight jacket type with the fur collar, but it was very, very heavy. Also, the arm holes were rather large and there was no gusseting.

In my Wested I am able to reach up and grab the overhead bar in the tube with no problems, without the jacket riding up around my ears. It is very handy. I believe that the higher arm holes and gusset help, as my other jackets don't do this.

Also, the jacket is very form fitting, and this cut actually has a slimming effect! I'm a big guy, but I don't look as big with this cut. It is fabulous.
