INTEREST THREAD-Relic Raider Vintage Clover Lighter?
Okay, I'm corresponding with Relic Raider about using the Zippo "Vintage" lighter for an Elsa's Clover Lighter. For those of you unfamiliar with the "Vintage" it is a repro of a 1930's era Zippo. It has squared edges instead of the rounded like the #200 and '41 reissue. Relic Raider said he'll do it if 4 more people would be interested and want one! If so, he'll make a metal and a resin version. THIS WOULD BE AWESOME! Here is a pic for comparison. On the left is a regular #200 clover, on the right is the Vintage(with the wrong shaped #200 badges on it) If 4 others would want one, he'll make badges that match the squared edges of the Vintage!

The Zippo model in question is the chrome-plated "1937 Vintage" (#230 25). The same style Zippo is also available in brass (#240 25).
If you are interested in vintage Zippo models, you may want to check out this informative website: http://www.zippocollector.com/index.html

RR, should I interpret that to mean that all the zippo inserts that you make (ZipLight, ZipLaser, ZipGrapplingGun, etc.) will all fit into the Vintage case just as they do all the 200 and 1941 cases?
Thanks,
J
P.S. Yes, I know you haven't gotten behind the whole ZipGrapplingGun concept...but I can keep hoping! (KIDDING! Please don't make me one or my wife will KILL me!)
Thanks,

You can find pictures of the #200, Armored and 1941 Replica on my website. Texas Raider posted a link to a picture that shows the #200 and the 1937 Vintage with the wrong badges on it. It will still give you a good idea what the Vintage lighter looks like. In short, it's got a flat top. You should also check out the site I already linked in an earlier post in this thread, because it shows actual vintage Zippos from the '30s, '40s and '50s.Dalexs wrote:I could probably be persuaded. I was almost going to buy one of the 1941 models but never got around to it. How do they compare?
I know the 200 and 1941 are a bit different.
Can anyone post pics of all three?

Doesn't the very solid Ball&Flame badge add enough armor to a #200?Mola Ram wrote:!!!
can you do a ammo insigna badge on one of these?

Yes, I "can" do it. Will I do it? Since I just committed to doing the vintage badges, the Ball&Flame badges will have to wait until I find time. It's always a time issue more than anything else, you know. Why don't you email me about it in a week or two?

The Ball and Flame logo has been the ammo and ordnance insignia of many armed forces, including today's US Army and Navy. The logo has first been used by the British Grenadier Guards and was later picked up by the Royal Engineers and by the Royal Horse Artillery. In 1783, the United States Army Ordnance Corps adopted the insignia. The Ammo Insiginia shows a shell with a flame coming out of it. If you have seen the Dirk Pitt adventure 'Sahara' earlier this year, you had a chance to see how such a shell worked. Unlike solid shot, the ball is hollow and filled with a low explosive like gunpowder. The shell contains a hole into which a fuse is inserted. The fuse is timed according to distance of the shot and the fuse is lit right before the shell is loaded and fired, typically from a smootbore cannon. While solid shot, the classic cannonball, was used to punch holes, and when heated, also to start fires, the shell was used to set fire and to signal. A variant of the shell was case shot, which was a shell filled with gunpowder and shrapnel. This type munition was used against enemy soldiers. The flame and ball insignia is simply the sign of trade for a munitions expert. I supposeall this is historically relevant to Indiana Jones, because I'm pretty sure that young Indy encountered more shells than he cared for in WWI!Feraud wrote:as an aside, is this an ordinance stamp? Well, I can give you an update. The problem isn't the badges, the problem is availability of the 1937 Vintage Zippos! I ordered a few about ten days ago and they still haven't shown up. I placed another order, but while the lighters supposedly were in stock, my money was refunded due to an "inventory program error." I always buy the plain lighters as cheap as possible so that I can pass on the savings to you guys. My goal is to charge for the lighter itself not more, but generally less than the regular retail price. The places that have those great prices are not reliable when it comes to being upfront what they really have in stock. They don't mind cutting down an order to just a couple lighters, and that usually means the shipping cost, which is more often than not the same no matter if you buy one or ten lighters, is suddenly ruining what appeared to be a good deal.
It appears that the 1937 Vintage lighter is difficult to come by, at least if you try to buy a fee of them. I'm familiar with this problem, because the 1941 Relica used to be, and sometimes still is, difficult to find for a decent price.
Once I get the 1937 Replicas in, I will let you guys know.
For now I can show you a 1937 Vintage Zoppo with metal badges, which is so far the only 1937 Vintage lighter that I've even gotten my hands on:
One of the COW members just got that 1937 Vintage with metal badges today and he seemed rather happy.
Cheers,

UPDATE:
Finding the 1937 Vintage lighters in quantity is more problematic than expected, but now I have a few in stock and I should be getting in more lighters some time next week. In an effort to keep the price of the lighter below suggested retail price, I have to buy the lighters in quantity with low shipping cost. One issue has been that after ordering, I was told the shipment was on its way, but a few days later I found out that only a partial order was shipped.
I can show you the (urethane) resin badges on the 1937 Vintage lighter:
You can expect me to have a few 1937 Vintage lighters with badges available early next week. I am now also considering to go ahead and add the hybrid badges as an option for the Vintage Zippo, because some people have shown interest in that option. That means badge options for the 1937 Vintage Zippo include resin, metal and hybrid badges. I'll post another update this coming Monday!
Cheers

Guys, I put everyone who showed interest on a list. As they become available, I'll be offering the lighters in descending order to the people on that list. If someone bows out, no problem, I'll simply keep moving down the list to the next person. Expect this process to begin in a day or two.

Everyone who has shown interest in this thread, or who has sent me an email or PM, is on my list. I am making every effort to have Vintage Zippos available and I have begun contacting you guys in chronological order.
A couple comments:
Due to demand, I have added hybrid badges as an option for the 1937 Vintage Zippo. Cast metal badges with a bright white finish and tough, 100% UV-resistant urethane finish:
You will notice color variances between the images on my website. All clover Zippos have the same green clover. Those and other color variances are simply due to lighting, exposure, a mediocre digital camera and fairly high compression. I simply don't have time to match all tones and hues. In the worst case, you will get a lighter that looks better than what you see on the screen.
Finish options: Satin versus Glossy
Satin is default, because it is what >90% of people want. The satin finish is certainly more screen-accurate and it is a more forgiving finish. A glossy finish will show minute scratches, a satin finish won't show small scratches at all. Removing scratches from a satinized finish is easy, removing scratches from a glossy finish requires a lot of elbow grease.
Whether or not I can offer a glossy finish also depends greatly on mother nature. If it's under 70 degrees or so, I can't achieve a flawless glossy finish. Luckily the local climate is mild and I will make every effort to give you a glossy finish if that's what you want. If it's not possible at that time, I will let you know. I'm not going to peddle subpar badges.
Cheers,
-Relic Raider

Howdy, howdy!
Just peeking out from under my rock here in sweaty Southeast Georgia.
I just want to say to all you jokers that are actually having winter weather-ENJOY IT!!!!
Every day above 70 that passes, as we get closer to Christmas, just makes me wonder what I was thinking relocating to the subtropics.
Needless to say, the jackets don't see much action these days.
Hope you are ALL doing well!
And I really would like one of these lighters-they look fantastic!
Highest Regards to all!

I highly recommend the hybrid 1937 version, Dawg. Get it, it will be the only one you'll ever really need (and this coming from an owner of SEVERAL rr zippos! )

I must apologize! Going down my list takes so much time! Once I contact someone, I have to wait for a reply and on occasion there are questions to answer. This slows the process down, which is already slow and tedious and dependent on a bunch of things falling into place. Weather, available time and availability of Zippos are the three big hurdles. There is still a Vintage Zippo shortage. In order to charge less than the suggested retail price for the Zippo, I have to be very thrifty when shopping for those Zippos, because like everyone else, I have to pay tax and shipping. Rest assured that I will eventually, as fast as I can, get back to you. Hang in there!
On a good note, at the current rate of orders, I should be able to supply modified Ziplights for another 4-6 months. When I begin running low, I will make an announcement.
Cheers,
-Relic Raider
