One federation or two?
What should I do guys, there was a mix up when I ordered my hat and now it seems two federation deluxe are on thier way to my house. Should I just keep the extra hat or pay to have it shipped back? I'm thinking I should just keep it, cant hurt to have two. Hope I like it though

Hang on, it's going to cost you to keep it, and cost you to send it back???
That only makes sense if YOU ordered two by mistake. If it was their fault, this shouldn't be happening. If they send you a second one by mistake, I think legally it's a 'gift' and you don't HAVE to send it back by law, we just do that kind of thing because we are ethical. But if it's going to cost YOU money because THEY made a mistake, I'd say COME AND GET IT.
Now...if it was your mistake, and you have to pay either way...how much do you save by paying to send it back? Anything over $15 is worth it. Below that (or pick your own magic number) is just not worth the time to package it and drag it to the post office, and pay for your time to stand in line. If you are in a break even point, keep the second hat. Donate or sell it to another gearhead, keep it as a backup, whatever. Keep it for a trade someday down the line. It's a decent enough hat, so it has value to two groups - Akubra, as a returned product, or a gearhead. In this forum, it's a commodity you could use at a later time...with varying results.
I'm hoping that even if you are stuck w/ shipping, though, you'll still clear over $40...so send it back.

Yeah, I agree with Jerry here. (Don't get too excited Jerry. ) If the mix up was THEIR fault, then THEY should pay for the return shipping. If they're adamant about it, just tell them you'll send it back the absolute cheapest way back, with no insurance on the package (even if it takes months to get there and is paddled back on a canoe). If the shop made the mistake, they should be willing to provide good customer service which makes everyone happy. If the mix up is your fault, however, then you likely are responsible for sending it back or paying for the hat. However, if the hat has not been delivered yet, and you know it will take a signature to accept the package, simply deny accepting the box and tell the courier to return to sender.

If you are anxious to receive at least one of the hats, inquire as to Akubra's return policy in regards to time for the other. If it is a useful amount of time, ie month or longer, put it up for sale in the classifieds or elsewhere where someone may like the idea of a Fed without the shipping cost, and possibly even at a discount considering you have some dollars to play with in possible return shipping costs. If you can't sell it outright, then ship it back within Akubra's time frame. Work two options at once...

It's the single draw back
Not wanting to go down a rabbit trail but.....I love my Hat's Direct Akubra's but its the one and only draw back in getting things internationally. . When I ordered my Fed D about two years ago (Wow...time flies) the shipping and wonderful import duties cost me over 25% extra, over the $150 Canadian I paid for the hat.
I always thought Canada and Australia were Commonwealth Cousins with some sort of free-er trade until I went to pick up the hat. So...getting things to you is expensive enough without having to box things up again and send it back...I would have to agree with those who said "If it's their mistake, they need to cover it."
Shipping anything internationally unfortunately always has our respective postal services licking their chops . eh.
Now if we could just figure out how to email felt
Warm Regards

Indiana George, did hatsdirect communicate to you that you have to pay to return the second hat? It is their fault in shipping two hats. They should absolutely not be charging you for something you did not order!
I think they should pay for most, if not all of the return shipping.
It was suggested you sell it and recoup the price of the hat and most of the shipping. That sounds like an option.

Re: It's the single draw back
I don't wat to hijack the thread, but I have to comment on Kilgour's remarks. I totally agree. The biggest draw back with Hats Direct, Wested, etc, is that it is a pain to get their products in the US. If you have a problem, it gets even worse. I generally avoid ordering internationally because of the potential hassle.Kilgour Trout wrote:Not wanting to go down a rabbit trail but.....I love my Hat's Direct Akubra's but its the one and only draw back in getting things internationally. . Now, back to George. If it was there fault, they should pay for the return shipping or just give you the hat. Its not your fault if they messed up.

You can always keep the hat and make some ebayer or COW member very happy that he or she does not have to go through international waters to get their Fed. I would pay to not have to go through the Hatsdirect process. Not that they don't do a good job, it just gets to be an expensive hat with them. Or.......you could just keep it and enjoy it. What color are your 2 hats?

You should contact Hatsdirect immediately. What may have happened is that you received a aht that wsa suppose to go to someone else and your order had not been processed yet.
This happened to me years ago.
I contacted Ron and he asked that I just forward the hat to the guy it belonged to. With forward, there are no expenses incurred.

Regardless of who's error it was , i say if the hat fits keep it. Let me ease your indecision, how many tanks of gas would add up to the price of the hat? What memories do you have of your last x tanks ? likely none, they are vapor now, but the hat, you can mothball it for down the track, or bash it differently to the first and the hat becomes a part of your life. cheers chauvel.
