A few years back they switched the leather used on the 405s, so the color changed from the darker brown to the lighter brown that they use now.

A few coats of brown polish will darken the current Aldens quite a bit.

On a side note, the new Aldens aren't the light "pumpkin" color. Apparently Alden has switched the color of the leather again. :?

I just got my Aldens a couple of weeks ago after a 4 1/2 month wait from the company. I love them and I don't think that I am going to change the colour. When I was ordering them I had asked about different colours and was told that they can do it but it is an extra $150.00. The colour now is darker than the old pumpkin they used to have, it is more of a medium brown with a slight red hue to it. I've heard it referred to as brick colour, here in the forum and that is an accurate way to describe them.

How long did it take for them to really break in? Mine fit well but can somtimes hurt my ankle so I have to keep them a little loose. They sqeak too.

I dont think there is a sepatrate order number. The standard boot now is made with a darker leather and thats the only choice

It took me a few weeks to break mine in. However, it wasn't really until school started and I began wearing them daily that they really "molded" to my feet. Also, the only time I lace my boots to the top is when I'm hiking. Otherwise, I leave the top row open.

You *can* get them in different leathers, colors, etc, but the price rises exponentially unless you put in a big order.

I think that is just the color scheme that they have for that particular branch of their shoes on the site.

Underneath where it says turbalance last,
it says dark brown.
The pictures look bleached out,
as theres no color in the sole exe.
Turns out, theres a store 30 minutes away that
CARRIES the indy boot, and ill be heading there to try
out the boot.

Yea.. they are showing the shoes in grayscale. They are the same ones found here. http://www.aldenshop.com/DrawOneShoe.asp?CategoryID=109

BTW, I own a pair of the blacks ones. They are called the 86s. They are not as sturdy and as "rugged" as the 405s. Same pattern but they are more along the lines of a dress shoe.

Hey Mola Ram, if it's cap-toe style boots you are after, I know of a better looking and more 'rugged' (but still nice) captoe boot. I don't have the website with me right now, but if you haven't gone with the Aldens yet, I'll get a pic and link posted tomorrow. These boots are super cool and really nice quality (they are also about 3 bones!) but well worth it, just like Aldens.

have a nice day.

Could you not use a leather dye to darken the boot? That is what I am thinking. Illinois

These are a pair of my ULTIMATE boot! I haven't gotten a pair yet, gotta save up! I love the description of their footwear!

"Founded in 1879 in Northampton,at the heart of England's most famous shoemaking region, Crockett & Jones are renowned today throughout the world for their fine quality. Each pair takes up to eight weeks to complete in a highly skilled process involving more than 200 separate operations.
Best-quality handmade shoes are recognized by their supple aniline-dyed(unsealed) calfskin leather, stitched-through Goodyear welted soles (which cannot be beaten for serviceability!) and full linings. With reasonable care, any of these shoes can be worn twenty years from now."

I LOVE THAT LAST PART!! TWENTY YEARS!! CROCKETT & JONES ROCK!!
