Questions about Wested jackets

Sorry Erri, spent the weekend in the mountains and only just got back.

Here is the thread:

(scroll near the bottom). The 80s fit is something you need to specifically request.

Tapered sleeves - not in the original jackets you see on screen and not something I have ever got so cant really comment on it except to say the idea doesnt appeal to me.

Elastic in the back - the design of the action pleats is flawed, as Peter admits. This is not his fault this is the way production asked for them to be. For this reason problems will always be encountered with them opening up - that is why its such a tricky problem for poor Peter to solve. Elastic definitly seems to be the solution that works.

Sliders Vs D Rings - D Rings = screen accurate, sliders = more reliable. It is certainly not a big deal though - the D Rings are by no means a problem.

Guessets - I got them on my last jacket but they dont really make a huge difference. do no harm but I wouldnt really ask for them again

Action pleats - sorry I didnt have time to get a picture of them for you last time.

What the tapering does ensure is you get a closer fit on the arm like here:

Untapered sleeves give you a more LC fit. IMO.

Erri, I would agree with Ken that by having Wested install the elastics into your jacket, that may help to keep the form of the jacket (ex: the action pleats staying closed) for years into owning the jacket...

I think it's interesting to see how the human species evolves over time, like most other things in life. For example, I visited Fort McHenry in Baltimore's Inner harbor not long ago and they had some regular civilian clothing in their collection from the 1812 era...I couldn't get over the fact that their "men's" clothing looked as if it would just barely fit my younger cousin who is in middle-school!

Not only that, but I'm a HUGE Civil War buff and reenactor. I've been to many Civil War museums as we travel. During the mid 19th Century, the average height of a man was something like 5'7 5'8 and even then they were considered tall! The museums housed uniforms that I know most, if not all, modern reenactors today could not fit into (including myself at a height of 6'1).

Okay, I'm way off topic, lol, but relating it to Indygear and with regards to the 80's fitting, it's almost like we can see a geometric pattern in human growth vs. the arithmetic pattern within the past few decades. I can see future gearheads now...."Yes, I'd like to order the early 21rst Century fitting for my jacket"....

....

erri_wan, you should expect to gain some weight in your lifetime. You are 20 years old and probably not finished growing. By growing I do not mean "bad" weight. You might take up weight lifting one day. That will increase your jacket size! Gaining weight is not always the result of the 'couch potato' syndrome.

If you plan to get an exact fit, you could always buy a new jacket.

I have a question about the gussets. For whip use does it really make a significant difference if you have one gusset compared to two? Does anyone have pictures of the double gusset "jagger lips"?

Honestly I dont think the gussets make a fantastic difference. When you raise your arms above your head the jacket will ride up. Period. It happens in the films and it happens in real life.

I just saw on their website that gussettes costs £5 more. I think i wont take them then

Dont be. Peter has a LOT of experience with what he does. Any problems can be fixed. If you measured right it will all be fine.

Yeah I think the usual wait time is a couple of weeks to a month. I had a jacket arrive in a week before but also had one that took a month.

Can't go wrong with them, only two measurements to get, and these will be on any of you're current trousers. I'm sure they will be able to make some 33 inchers.

They said they dont offer 33" but only 32" and 34". I asked for 34" but they were finished. So i went for 32". They probably fit me but i wont be so sure of it till they arrive.

Only one measurement if you order them unfinished though. In my opinion they are very true to size, 32 inches will be 32 inches, so no trouble there unless you did something funny with the measuring tape.

Bigger the order, tougher the wait. I'm sure you will like what you get. Wested aim for 21 day or under to have the stuff finished, but I reckon a month is tops.

I ordered mine back in August. Some time later, I was on a coffee break with a co-worker and said to her, "You know, I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever get my Indy jacket." When we got back to the office, the security guard had a package for me... and guess what was inside?

So I suppose what I'm saying is, comment out loud about waiting for your Wested and it'll magically appear!!

(mine really only took 20 days to arrive but it sure seemed longer)

Due to our recent hot, hot weather, I haven't been able to wear it yet and want to break it in first!

BUT, if the cool weather kicks in over the weekend, I'll finally be able to wear it and get rid of that "new jacket smell" -- although I must confess I really like the smell of new leather.

Am I alone here?

Well, a couple of days ago, it was as hot as Cairo here in Los Angeles; now, not so much. In fact, it's cooled off quite nicely so tonight I was finally able to wear it!

With my arms to my sides, the sleeves seem a little long, but while driving they're the perfect length to keep my wrists warm so no complaints here.

(By the way, L.A.'s been as hot as 100 degrees on Halloween day. Last year, it was over 80.)

About the lenght of the sleeves, i think indy has long ones, have a look at the beginning of raiders when he hold the map. There is a close shot of the sleeves and you can see they are quite long also when the arm is bent

But the 100 & 80 were really just rough estimates for the sake of conversation. A similar statement among those more familiar with the Celsius scale would be, "It's been as hot as 40 C on Halloween. Last year it was almost 30 C."

A long time ago (before the internet), there was a phone number I used to call for the time and temperature, and it would give out both Fahrenheit and Celsius degrees. Years later, I still remember this one day I called:

Time -- 11:52

Temperature -- 52 degrees F., 11 degrees C.
