Does anyone here block hats if they come with an open crown like the FEDs?
Kind regards,
All the best,

You mean RE-block them? If it comes with an open crown, it was blocked to begin with. Now it just needs to be bashed, unless it was the wrong block and you need it re-blocked. If that is the case, I'd PM 'fedora'.
JohnNdy's tutorial is for shaping an open-crowned Akubra Fed Deluxe. I'd skip the 'brim trimming' part unless you KNOW you want to trim the brim, and just try bashing/shaping it first to see how it looks. You can always trim the brim afterwards.

Agreed. I was able to bash w/ cold water, no problem.prairiejones wrote:I have bashed all of my hats. If you use Johnndy's tutorial, I strongly urge you to NOT use steam. It will shrink the hat(TAPER). Just bash it with your hands, maybe a little cold water.
You also have to let it DRY naturally in cool air. Do NOT put over your computer monitor, lamp, or use a hair dryer, for fear of shrinkage - which wouldn't change the size of the hat, but would taper the top - ruining the work you just did.
