Todd's Holster

Hello Everyone,
I have received my Basic Raiders Holster from Todd's Costumes today and I could not be happier. This is it, out of the box.


For me, this will be a prop holster, and now I need a prop gun to put in it. That is my next project. (I live in Massachusetts where it is very difficult to legally obtain and carry a real firearm.)

I wanted to age it a little bit, so I took some dark brown shoe polish and rubbed it in and finished off the edges of the leather with it as well. It doesn't show up in the photos, since the flash canceled it out, but it looks great, very Raiders.
Here it is with my awesome TAG gun belt.


Bottom line, this holster is awesome. I can't believe it was only $20.00. It came in about three days. I couldn't be happier. Thank you Todd, so very much.

I have a Pacific Canvas holster.
It's dark brown (I wanted TOD look), however, I notice the shape of yours is a bit different.

For one thing, Todd's holster has more hole notches in the leather catch (mine has only one).
Mine also seems to taper sharper towards the bottom (where the gun barrel rests).
Lastly, the cover of your new Todd's holster has more material than mine (the overlap is longer on yours).
Just some observations I've noted.
In your opinion, is Todd's holster screen accurate?
(Before I start doing COW searches, I figured I'd ask first)

Bottom line is that it looks great and seems like a great value holster.
What other holster(s) do you have?

IMO, Todds deluxe is the most screen accurate holster available. Not to mention it is perfectly suitable for carrying a real firearm.

Just in case that threw anybody, Todd's got two holster offerings now.

Absolutely, bink. I’m sorry I didn’t think of it myself. The rivets are very tough on it and the flap through which you slide the gun belt is very tight, so the holster won’t shift whilst you wear it.

Doc, I think thick is relative. I think it is about right. It does flex very well, so I wouldn’t say it is too thick.

Hello Spooky, From a cursory look, it is very screen accurate and for $20, you simply cannot beat it. This is my first holster, so I am doubly excited. Why don’t you post a picture of yours for comparison? (I see you have!) Also, check the main page. I think Todd’s looks very much like the MBA and the Keppler and the Noel –all incredible holsters. I think it looks quite a bit like Indy’s as well. Todd points out where it differs: the stitching isn’t exact, the leather has some flaws, the back is riveted on, and the edges aren’t finished, but once again, for $20, this is amazing! (BTW, I need to read your PM and will shortly.)

Yes, it is; another concession to keep the price down I am sure.

As Jerry said, there is a deluxe model available for those that want exact accuracy.

I'm gonna be carrying an airsoft revolver in mine, which has about the same weight and exactly the same size as a real one... I'll let you know how that works, as a rough guide.

I ordered mine yesterday... biting my nails in anticipation of its arrival.

Hey, Y'all!

Glad you like the holsters! I think it will be perfect for many people who want an inexpensive holster (I would fall into that camp myself!)

As far as carrying a real gun, the only reason not to is that the belt loop and strap are attached with rivets, which might scratch a real gun. You could glue a lining into it to cover up the rivets. (I could glue in a lining, but then the holster wouldn't be $19.95 any more!)

By the way, if you want to mold the holster to your gun, simply dunk the holster in cold water for two or three seconds, take it out and wait a minute for the water to soak in. Wrap your gun in a plastic bag (grocery sack, garbage pail liner, etc.) and push it into the wet holster as far as it'll go. You can fold over and fasten the flap, too, if you want, but I personally like to leave the flap open to maintain the "spring" in the leather. Let it sit a day until it is dried out and remove your gun. Your gun will be a lot easier to insert and remove now, and the holster will look more "broken in".

Those holsters look really nice, and you can't beat that price for anything made out of leather anymore. Also, if you all know of anyone who likes to leathercraft, you can easily add border grooves and reinforce the rivets with some stitching - and even stitch in a barrel plug if you want to if they have the tools.

It's definitely got some flaws... I cut down and filed around the barrell so that it has the more traditional look, but there's nothing I could do about the shape of the handle. It has been painted and etched so that it looks like wood.

It works like a real revolver, spinning cylinder, you cock it using the hammer on the back, meaning that unlike most spring airsoft guns you can cock it with one hand. you put shells (included) in the cylinder (I think I'm spelling that wrong... sorry) and each shell holds an airsoft pellet.

Now, on the box it came in was a traditional Smith and Wesson 6" barrell pistol and 4" barrell pistol, both with the old-style wood handles. I contacted the company, and they are not currently selling those models overseas, but the lady assured me that they'll start next year. I'll make scans tommorow to give you an idea as to how perfect these will be as suitable, play-functional replicas.

Thanks so much for the tip about molding the holster to your gun. I soaked mine thoroughly for about 15 to 20 seconds, wrapped my HFC airsoft in a baggie -- genius by the way, I wouldn't have thought of that -- and then let it dry for two days. It works great. I got my delux Webley holster from Todd for Christmas, and had never quite been satisfied with how my recently purchased airsoft pistol fit in it. The holster is still a little long for the gun, but works like a champ. Great tip.

Lee, they are, indeed, rivets on the basic holster. Todd's Deluxe holster is actually stitiched in the back and not riveted. I believe the rivets on the budget holster are a cost saving measure. That said, in e-mails back and forth some time ago, Todd told me the basic/budget holster was NOT intended to carry a true firearm for that very reason.

Glad you kicked this rock over, Chaos - I recently did this to my holster, too, now that I have a replica to put in it, and the difference was dramatic. Now my holster looks RIGHT, no longer flat and...cartoony?

I remember you put your cell phone in there at the QM one year Jerry...

I soaked my holster with my cell phone in there and now I can't call anybody and my holster is flat and square. I think I did something wrong, but I'm not sure what.

I'd soak it and put a gun in and all that, but the only gun I have that'll fit is a Walther PPK, and I'm not sure that'll give it the right look. You know?

hahah...the good news is ANY $1 Store magnum will get you SOME close shape.

The replica I have is actually one of artsee1's Lebel revolvers - Rick O'Connel's cool pistols from The Mummy. It's roughly the right size, and it's got a cylinder, and you aren't going to see much more detail than that in the holster. And you can always re-soak the holster later for another gun...MIGHT take a new shape. Might. Heck, if you were closer I'd let you borrow MINE, but you can just as easily find a pink magnum squirtgun and do the same thing.

(P.S. I bet your holster gets pretty good reception now)

And YES, now that I have a replica...I lost the great place to hide my cell phone!
