Jacket Production in Context

Post by Flash Gordon »

You know what would be cool...

To find out what costumes Wested was making for which movie when they were making your jacket.

I just ordered a Raiders horsehide and would like to know who else they're making costumes for. Then I could say: "See those jackets in Harry Potter? They were making those while they were making my Indy jacket."

What would REALLY be cool is, to have YOUR jacket being made while they're making the jackets for INDY 4!

Maybe there would be a mix-up...

That would be a tough request, as a lot of the jobs in production are hush-hush, so they can't really say what they're working on when jacket orders come and go. That said, though, I DO know what you mean. I did find out that my wife and my cloth Raiders jackets were lined with left over material from the Pirates of the Caribbean, and yes, they are more special to my wife and myself just knowing that. :D

When I visited Wested, I had the pleasure to see a variety of other movie costume pieces. Its certainly a thriving part of their business.

Very cool!

I never thought of having my wife lined over. Hmm...you've given me a lot to think about, Michaelson...that next anniversary...I think I'll have the little missus re-upholstered.

Agreed, you often just don't know what the movie is at the time they are making it.

Example: I take my little girls for a drive on a road around the outside of our penninsula when I can't get them down for a nap. Sometimes we stop at the overlooks to check out the view. One time we could see a movie set on the next bluff over, and it was cool to watch. Odd, really, to see a castle on a cliff and British soldiers standing on the parapets...someone said it was for some pirate movie, but nobody knew what.

You guessed it, I was looking at the back of the set for Pirates Of The Caribbean! Check out the location shooting section on the DVD extras, and when you get to the section on Rancho Palos Verdes, you'll see the exact set I'm talking about.

I *think* my jacket was probably made about the same time as the WotW jackets (or did that turn out not to be Peter?), but it's only by guessing afterwards. I don't think there's ever a way to know for sure at the time, but often they can't say, it's being developed under some other working title, or it's a movie nobody's heard of (like that Pirate movie). ;)

You could try. It never hurts to ask! The worse they can say is 'no, we can't say'. :-k Regards! Michaelson

So you know, they don't call it the space bar, they call it the "plank."
