Camptown hat

Jersey and I swapped out our hat offerings, well, I have his Camptown, but have to make his AB. It is in line though, to be made, Jersey.

I want to say a few words about Jersey's hat that he is selling. First, the felt is better than 99 per cent of the other offerings, in fineness. It has a high beaver content which helps this out, greatly. The workmanship is good for a factory hat, and I especially like the vented sweat band. I think this hat is well worth the price.

The only weak point of the hat is the block shape. Now, it makes a dandy TOD fedora, and that is what I turned mine into. But, with this said, it has a classic fedora block shape, which should satisfy the vintage hat fans.

If Jersey ever gets the Raiders block, he will have a huge bang for the buck Indy fedora. And, he would put many of the other offerings in the can. IMHO, of course. His felt is superior, and this is a huge selling point for me. Fedora

I think it is great to see a vendor review another vendor's offering, and so constructively. Perhaps, we will see a future review of an AB by Ken?

I wish there were more photos posted of Camptowns. I have never seen one on someone's head (Or was that what you were wearing in the train, Michaelson?). I would really like to see some comprehensive reviews by members and some photos of people wearing these.

Obviously, I am a total AB aficionado, but I enjoy seeing other hats and other bashes beside SOC.

Yes sir! We talked about that once didn'w we? And it was noted. As time goes on, you can expect to see options available with my hats. The lastest one is you can specify the plastic capped liner, or one without the plastic protector for those who prefer it. I want to keep adding options, while keeping the price the same. And if I think anyone is making a better Indy fedora, for the buck, I will see what they are doing, and copy them.

It is my goal, to never be outdone.

Hemingway, I love giving reviews of other hats, but have to pick and choose as I do not want to be negetive, and that cuts down on what I can say. I think most folks know my favorite hats anyways, so this is a moot point.

Not that my opinion has any more credence than anyone's elses either. I say, buy what you like, what you can afford, and what will make you happy. Heck, most folks will think you are trying to be a cowboy anyways, regarless of the hat worn.

I've always enjoyed seeing other bash styles. Fedoralover has a couple of nice ones. Obviously, I love the Raiders bash. But, in the future I'd like to have a more "classically" bashed hat. Costner's in The Untouchables comes to mind.

I would say that your opinion on construction, materials, block etc carry more weight than most people!

As for the cowboy comments, all I can say is, "Giddy-Up!"

I've always thought that the Camptown would make a good "generic" 1930's fedora. I'd love to see one with a C-Dent bash!

You know, in Mongolia the word to make the horse go is a loudly shouted "CHU!", but interestingly there is no word in their language to make the horse stop!

You can shout "WHOA!" till the cows come home, or more likely you catch up with them in the next valley...

I have finally received my Camptown hat and I must say I do love it. It had a very soft finish with plenty of body. It's not so stiff that one can shape it dry, but I used a little steam to set the bash and pinch in once I got the shape that I wanted. Mine seemd to take a Raiders bash quite well with no hint of tapering. Nice camel humps and a tight pinch. I didn't go for any one scene in particular but an over all ROTLA look.
I will be posting several pictures in the near future to show off this new lid. Anyway, that's my two cents, for what it's worth.

I haven't turned any of my hats, but I find, if I hold the hat firmly in place, and turn my head slightly,while not allowing the hat to turn with me; I get the same effect as you would 'turning' the hat.

This shouldn't be tried at home, though. I'm a professional on a closed course.

Hello folks !

Thanks to Steve for his shining review of my lid. That means a lot to me. As to the block, it was my intention as stated above to get a solid general shape for a 1930's style hat rather than try to reinvent the Indy lid.

However....

If I can afford to do it, I would like to get a block set made for the Indy blocks and the equipment my shop uses. Now I would need at least two complete block sets, so this could be a ways off.

Until then, my lid is available in brown and if enough interest is there (HINT!) I will offer the same block and brim in medium bluish grey too.

Thanks for the great feedback. Look for the website to launch soon too. Being jobless

at the moment makes me a bit preoccupied with job hunting, BUT if I can sell oh a few dozen hats a month ....well...job, what job ?!
