Nice compliments on my AB

Post by Indiana Croft »

Recently went to D.C. and on the last day we were bumming around Baltimore, we were down by the Harborside mall and while we were in there I saw a store called "Hats in the Belfrey" They had a picture in the front, we sell the Indiana Jones hat. Well of course I had to take a peek. I belive it was a wool version didn't look like Beaver and had the tear drop bash.
While I was looking, this attractive lady made a coment on my AB and that it was a very nice looking hat. She saw there hats and picked up and immediately realized that my hat and there hat were different. she said that she could tell that my hat was one of quality.
I'm not bashing there hat but there is a difference. And it's nice when someone see's it.
Here are some pics of me and my daughter and one of me my brother and law playing chess at a road side chess bar or something. He's a Rabbi from Canada and neither one of us had played chess in like 20yrs, he still kicked my butt.
Enjoy

It's nice to know that there are some who still appreciate a man (or woman) in a hat. I'm curious when you and your brother-In-Law played chess. Whenever he captured one of your chess pieces, did he say "Dr. Jones. Again we see there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take away."?

Croft! You were in my neck of the woods! I know exactly which Hats In the Bellfrey you were at. In fact, I was in Annapolis last weekend and went into the Hats in the Bellfrey shop they had there. I saw the Dorfman Indy (the hat I wanted so much as a kid) and had to take a look at them for nostalgia's sake. I tried to keep back my laughter when I saw how innacurate they were and felt the wool felt. I really wish I would've had my AdventureBilt on my head. (I was wearing a straw because of the heat).

The girl behind the counter was very helpful and offered to hold the one that actually fit me so it could have the crinkled ribbon ironed out, but I politely declined. She took the hat aside nonetheless so it could be rectified anyway. She also didn't go into a "this is the hat from the movies" tirade, rather, she was interested in selling me a hat I looked interested in. At any rate, I don't think I'll be geting a Dorfman Indy after all...

I knew I should have put it out there on the site that I'd be in the DC/Baltimore area. I'd love to have met the famous Binkmeister and get one of your hugs (w/my hand on my wallet of course).

And as far as Indiana Jess:

No as a matter of fact he didn't, if he had I would have busted a gut laughing just like I did when I read your post. That was priceless.

Thank you, I orriginally had Steve try making the hat when Indy's on the front bumper minus the big curl up on the rear of the hat, didn't come out the way I wanted soooooo a little steam (sparingly) a little of this and a little of that and I'm very pleased with way my AB looks.
I do get many nice compliments and of course those few "hey cowboy"
Oh well what are you going to do, I most ignore them.

Hey Croft,

Too bad that you didn't warn us, some of us may have been able to run into you while you were here. I was going to mention that you had on a fedora while he had on a Tilley, but someone beat me to it.

The fan shaped pool where you and your daughter were sitting is called the Capital Reflecting Pool. There is a long rectangular pool at the other end of the Mall that is called the Reflecting Pool.

If you would have worn your Forest Gump Gear, you could have run out in the middle of the Reflecting Pool and met Jenny. #-o And that's all I have to say about that.

Well, it's in the shops right at Inner Harbor, so it won't be much of a side trip at all. If we didn't already have plans that day, I might've come up!

Croft,
The hat looks great! It's nice to see you and your daughter having fun down in DC. I especially like the side view. It reminds me of the side view of Ford's hat in the cafe' where he meets 'Bellosh.' "Belloq, Beloq!"

BTW, there is a "Hats in The Belfry" on South Street in Philadelphia. It has been there for not less than 20 years. Though, it is more of a novelty shop, rather than a hat shop. Krass Bros. up the street, had a hat shop inside, but I'm not sure it is still there.

Great looking fedora, it actually looks like 'your' hat and not a generic. Very nice day with your daughter.

Hey all, thanks for the compliments, as far as how did I get the brim this way. Remember I asked Fedora for my hat to have that look when he was on the front bumber of the truck towards the end of the movie, you know the part.............. what am I talking about, you guys no every second of that movie.
Any way I asked, I got. Only it didn't have the look I was looking for. See the two pics.

You can see how curled the brim is, I'm sorry Steve, the hat was awsome it just didn't work. No offense. So I went to work watching the movie "again" (any excuse, right) and put a little steam to it, I started by flatening the brim, not a lot just enough to get that curl out. Then a little steam, some shaping, a little more steam. Then over the next month I purposley grabed it buy the pinch so to get more crease.
The result is my AB as I love it. This hat has turned out to be my only hat to wear. I reserve my HJ for Sundays. (I don't know why, I just do)

Remember know we were to play a quick game as we had the ladys with us. What was to have been quick game turned into a half hour long battle, so if I'd know he was going to get serious, I'd probably played my lovely lady a little differently.

Indiana Jones and the Explosive Diaherrea of Doom!

P.S. The brim is awesome. I think the only way to get an Indy hat is to wear it alot and get it to fit your face and head, tweaking it every once in a while.

P.P.S. You look a bit like Emeril Lagassi, the chef.

I love the name Marjorie. I've often wanted to name a daughter that, but my wife is stuck on Elinore or Eleanor or however it's spelled.

That's a good choice of scenes, by the way. I've always loved the 'hood of the truck' hat.

Oof, and that side view photo showing the brim curl did it for me. I've GOT to get me one o' them hats! Fedora, expect a phone call.

I was at the store today in my AB and the girl at the register gave me, what I feel were two compliments. She said, "I like your hat." I thanked her. She then said, "It's very Indiana Jones." I double thanked her for that. :D

I've had that happen. I once went into a cyber cafe, and the clerk told me my hat looked like Indy's. I told him that was the idea, and he said: "Oh, well, you're doing a good job of getting that image accross!"

It was NEAT.
