Price of Wested Horsehide

Post by Flash Gordon »

Does a Wested horsehide Indy jacket cost the same as the lamb or goat?
If it's more expensive, is it worth the extra money compared to the others?

I recall it being a bit more expensive but I can't remember by how many pounds.

It's about $400, plus shipping.

That much? I was thinking it was like 20-40 more pounds.

I just today received my Wested horsehide TOD and it was $303 USD shipped to the west coast USA. I think it's one of the best deals going!!

IIRC it's 10 pounds more. That's 18.4226 bucks.

Yeah, it's a tiny, tiny amount extra... which is absolutely amazing when you consider the cost of horsehide jackets elsewhere.

Is it worth it?

Well, horse leather is fantastic, but I don't believe Wested have yet pulled off a truly authentic Indy colour in it.

Now, this didn't bother me when I got mine - but I'm quite sure it would bother some gearheads to the point of a nervous breakdown.

But it's something to consider.

When you say the color is not authentic, what exactly is off?

Is it too light or too dark, or too grey or too red?

I'm ready to order one, and I'd like to have as much info as possible.

Well, color is the hardest to pin down. Especially on the horsehide. The early batch(es) (like Rob's) were dark with a russet undertone. Mine is from a different batch and is a dark chocolate brown, somewhere between the authentic and dark lamb or goat. What do you prefer? If you don't like darker leathers, go with the authentic. I don't think you will be dissapointed with either choice.

Yep, what he said :)

Mine is definitely very russett in places, but I personally adore it. We haven't seen any emerge with that coloruing for some time now, however. Chances are, yours would be the dark brown like BJones'.

The exchange rates fluctuate a LOT. My lamb was $304 total, with a couple extras on it. That was a year ago. Sounds like the price differential for HH is negligible.

Yes....the avitar is my new jacket. It is almost the exact color of a Hersey bar. But like everyone says, it all depends on the light. I would have prefered it be a little darker but I am still pleased.
