Katrina's wrath AB

Post by Fedora »

Here is the first hat that got saturated during our recent hurricane. http://public.fotki.com/Fedora/hats/katrinas_wrath.html

There are also other pics there on that site. I initially wore this beaver hat in the torrential rain that we endured for 15 hours. Once this one got saturated to the core, I pulled out the Safari hat and used it, complete with chin strap.

All that I did to the hat pictured above was to throw some Cairo looking creases into the hat, and stand it on its crown. I just remembered the hat and went and got it and snapped these pics. I think there might be just a bit of taper from the saturation and drying, but not too drastic, and certainly wearable. All of what you see are dried in creases. There is some nice reverse taper in that hat, especially in the back shot. Awesome hat, indeed. :D

So, am I to understand that you sat in the rain with this hat on for 15 hours?

He said that they endured the rain for 15 hours, which was the duration of Katrina, not that he was out in it for that long. As you probably know, in rains like that you can get saturated in a matter of minutes. Perhaps in the time to run to safety.

In that kind of rain, you can run outside to grab the cat and get soaked to the bone.

Yes. I just looked and I had pics of the "before" already on the site. The ribbon is my personal preference on Indy hats. Not screen accurate though, but I have seen lots of vintage brown hats with the iron color ribbon.

 I am mad, but not that mad. I had to make a dozen or so trips getting the hat tools and stuff inside a more substantial structure. Hence, I got soaked, and so did the hat. My head was still dry though, when I pulled the hat off and got another one to get soaked. Plus, I was curious as to how the hat would taper. A field test. Fedora

I almost asked for that ribbon, because I remembered that post. Is there a place where I could find that ribbon if I want to change it in the future? I changed the ribbon on one of my Akubras, to black, and it turned out great.

I am afraid I have all of that is left of this ribbon. I bought up on it a few months ago when it was found. 1930's era grosgrain. I still have plenty though. Oh, the brown ribbon on your hat is the dark brown vintage. Same ribbon as the iron color. I just prefer the iron on my brown hats. Fedora

Cool. That ribbon on the hat headed my way looks great in the pics. Nice and dark. The ribbon on the Akubra is just too light.

It means your hats dont have screen accurate ribbons?

No, it's the ribbon Fedora put on HIS hat. His ribbons are screen accurate, but if you prefer a different ribbon, he will do that at your request.
