Indies glasses 9-15-05 pics added
Skroll down to the bottom for intresting info that might be helpful.
I'm going to be needing new glasses very soon, and I was reading some of the other posts regarding the type and style needed.
I only wear them for reading. So I won't be going with the cable style, yes I know this is more screen acurate but I fear that my ears would hurt more.
What I want is to call and order my glasses and I want to know what to ask for to get me the closest match in appearance to Indys glasses.
Thanks
Croft

I just ordered myself a pair of BOIC's yesterday too. With a lot of help from my good friend, Rundquist. It's been on my "To Do" list for about a year, and yesterday I decided to get it off the "To Do".
I wanted to bring in my current prescriptions (a very slight astigmatism) to see if I can copy the prescription's off my old ones, but I needed to get an eye exam, darn. Sad So, I checked my health plan, which would have required me to go to my HMO physician, that would then get me a referral to a "Optometrist" that's on the HMO plan, that would get me a prescription that I can send into FramesDirect. That sounded a little convoluted and a lot of wasted motion. I walked into the local Wal-Mart, and received an eye exam. Thirty minutes later and $49 poorer, I walked out with a prescription for long distance and reading. I reviewed the entire prescription with the doctor and noticed that pupil distance was not filled in. The doctor mentioned that the opticians do that. Sigh... I see a long line there and walk out, thinking it's not important.
This is the fun part, I go online at FramesDirect and fill in my prescription and they DO NEED PUPIL DISTANCE. I give them a call and ask if they can guesstimate. NO, was the answer. so back to the car to get my pupils measured.
Anyway, I recorded the above for anyone that is about to go on this adventure, since it is worth it, but convoluted.
- select the BOIC eyewear from framesdirect
- select the Beaufort P3 G.F. from a long list of BOIC eyewear
- select your lens diameter (41 to 51mm diameter)
I chose 49mm, but that was after a lengthy visit to the optician where we looked at the best proportion to my face. I didn't want to get the smallest diameter, since I wanted to avoid looking like John Lennon. Nothing wrong with John, since he is my favorite beetle.
- select the "cable" version for your diameter and not the temple width
- select your vision lens
standard, polycarb, etc.
- select "ADD to Cart"
- a popup comes up which requires you to fill in the prescription
your right, left eye sphere, cylinder, axis
and YOUR PUPIL DISTANCE (VERY IMPORTANT)
- then you need to select how the prescription can be verified
by either selecting you are faxing, emailing a jpeg of the prescription, or allowing FramesDirect to call your doctor.
- you then submit the prescription form and proceed to enter your credit card details with shipping address
I must say, from start to finish, all the above took 2 hours. Including phone calls to Adam, phone calls to HMO (screw them), travel to Wal-Mart twice, entering in the order form at FramesDirect.
Wheww, I hope the next person as much fun as I did. I hope this helps with anybody that goes down this path.

If I had to pick ones that come close, I would say the Berkshire Chase that is listed on Frames Direct here.

Personally, I like cable temples because the glasses rarely if ever come off my face. Being in technology, you are sometimes climbing behind a server rack and the last thing you need is your glasses falling off.

Seems like this company still offers the Panto P3's under the BOIC name...Rosenet wrote:I just did a search on framesdirect.com and wasn't able to find BOIC frames. Has framesdirect stopped offering them?

Yea I did try to do as extensive back search as I could and I did read the thread were Pyroxene went through the process of ordering the Berkshire Chase, but as I recall they no longer offer the sides in the acetate.
I sent the new thread out there in case someone else went w/the Pantos 3 model. I just wanted to know if ay one else had recently made a purchase and what they went with.
Thanks for all the responses.
When I get the I'll post a pic or two or three or four or or or .... oh heck I'll post several I'm sure

Hey , Ken, can you post a pic of you in the glasses? You and I have a similarly narrow face and I'd like to see the size 49 on you. I was thinking about getting a pair of these, but I like a smaller lens size. So after I see yours, I might have a better idea of what size to order. THANKS!
have a nice day.

I got the size 45mm frame I believe. They are still 'big' on me, but big in as far as that is the style of the glasses.
I where them in the Templars films but I don't have any screengrabs of that at this time. Hopefully I will be able to get some from Jonathan in the not too distant future.
If in the meantime I can get a picture of myself in the glasses I will (its just hard as no-one is around at the minute - just me)

Ordered my glasses yesterday and it was a pleasant experiance, very friendly folks at FramesDirect.
I ordered the Panto 14K acetate (chestnut) I don't much like the cable style so I went with regular skull type.
Heres the news: I did some research by way of doing some searches through the archives, at one time they offered the acetate on the temple, then they didn't, much to a lot of disapointment from fellow COW members .
Well while I was on the phone with Liz, I figured what have I got to loose. I asked if it was avaliable again, she checked and for an additional $7.00 they'd do it. Done. I just ordered frames only and I'll have the lens put in up here in NH.
The temple size I had to order was the 145mm and I take a 135/140mm size. Liz said she'd make a request for my temple size and we'd see what happens. If they say no to this she'd still order me the 145mm and my eye doctor said he could make some adjustment.
When you order them with the acetate on the temple they become special order and not returnable, unless of course they come to damaged that'd different.
Heres a link to the FarmesDirect for the Panto 14K Acetate.

Hope I did good here for anyone else who might be thinking of new glasses. I mentioned to LIz that she may get some calls regarding this so feel free to ask for her. They do get credit for thier sales.

PS: pics and an update whne they come in. My fingers are crossed.

Not according to the main site:

Be aware also that at time of writing these frames are no longer available in the 'Blonde' model, as specified above for Harrison Ford's glasses. The current offering is 'Chestnut'.

SJ,
I know what the main page says. I think the ones in the movie look dark. Considering that they have bright movie lights on them, I can't see them being something that is called Blond. That sounds like too light of a color.
On the frames direct site, it doesn't say which color is pictured and I don't see any way to switch the picture to another color. Do you know a website where I can get to see a picture of both colors?

Here are some pic's of my Pantos 14K gold w/Acetate. One thing though and I'm sorry I jumped a gun here . When I talked with them and asked for the Acetate on the "temple" I didn't realize that temple refered to the whole arm, so the temple cover I got on my frame's was only in the area behind the ear and not up by the front, (like Indy's). Dang, oh well. Here are some pic's any way.

I did have to send them back as the Acetate was coming away from the frame, and one of the screws had no head and when they loosened to put the lens in it loosened up and kinda flopped around .
The lady who help did make one intresting comment, she asked me how "old" they were. Thought that was neat.
All for now as I'm beat.

Nice pictures. The glasses suit you very well indeed - they look very natural on you (which in my humble opinion is what you want with a pair of [Indy] glasses).
Ken
PS - Texas Raider, havent forgotten and will post a picture of me and my glasses when I can get one, though it might not be for a while

Thanks, Ken! Hey Croft, those optics look great, but geez man! Please pardon me for asking, is that the WPG shirt? It looks approx. 5 times too big for you!! Those eppaulettes look like they are long enough to land a 747 on! What is up with that?
Really, just a little constructive critisism, the shoulder seams of the shirt are hanging way past your shoulders to the top of your bicep! Is this how you like it to be?

Yes it's a WPG, (I wore it in this pic to see if some one noticed, yikes) I ordered by my shirt/collar size and this is what came. I tried washing it and drying on high heat to shrink it but to no avail. I'm thinking of taking it to a tailor to see if (1) bring in the tent like appearance and (2) see if they can do something with eppaulettes, and yes they are way to long, those 747's are heavey.but geez man! Hey, Croft, I would contact Jerry at WPG and see if it can be exchanged. If that isn't possible, definately see if a tailor can do something. The eppaulettes should be no problem to shorten, and I'm pretty sure they can bring it in on the sides, but the overly large shoulders may be a problem. You're talking the main structure of the shirt here, the front and rear panels, which are just too large. I may be wrong, but in that case, it seems they'll have to chop up and entirely reconstruct the shirt. It might be easier to sell it and get a smaller size Wested

I have a Wested allready, I wanted another shirt that was of another mfg. a not so expensive, I'd feel terrable if I ruined my Wested. Looks like I'll shoot a pic to Jerry at WPG and see if theres anything we can do. If not I'll sell it and then see if Jerry can one thats smaller in the shoulder. It might be easier to sell it and get a smaller size Wested

I ordered a pair of Panto chestnuts today from a local shop here in Austin.
They are just reading glasses for me, so I didn't want the wire wrap arms. I called Berkshire Chase and was told that the "polo" arms are the skull style arms that are chestnut covered over the entire arm.
I bought the 47mm size. I hope they don't look too big.
I'll post pics when they arrive.

Indy Glasses sources
Can anyone point me in the direction of souces for Indiana Jones glasses? I'd need them for reading and computer screen distance. I'm a newbie, so any hints on searching for past posts is welcomed.
