Gear Display

Post by Panama Tom Jr. »

My room addition is finally done, and after hanging my guitars I got my gear set up on the wall. My wife thinks it's a little over the top, but I assured her she'd get over it... eventually

No, no - over the top would have been if it had been suspended from the ceiling fan.

WHOoosh... WHOoosh... WHOoosh...

;)

Looks good!

8) Very Nice Panama... Is that a SRV signature strat on the wall? Nice collection by the way :) Have you considered using a period hat stand for the Indy stuff? Just an idea 8)

Thanks - I used to play professionally, but it's kind of a hard way to make a living, especially with a family. I play at church, where they pretty much let me rock out for 200 to 300 people every Sunday...
As for the Indy gear, I had originally planned to go with a hat stand, but space and $ were the leading factors to going the way I did - $100 dollars for a wrought iron hat stand at Pier One, vs. a $5 pewter hat/coat Hook at home Depot. I've got a brown leather sleeper sofa coming in that will be placed under the guitars, and some really nice rustic wood steamer trunks for a coffee table and end tables. We are going with the whole British Colonial / Carribean / Hemingway kind of look, and I think the gear will look especially at home once the other pieces are in...

Yes, very nice guitars! I very recently picked up a Fender Stratocaster. Not the best guitar around, but it works. So I've got the electric, and then I have a much cheaper acoustic, which is just some Yamaha that I picked up.

I play at church too sometimes with a larger band - very, very fun.

Great collection of stuff - and nice gear display! Makes it easier to grab it all, I bet. I have to run around my room opening drawers and closets and shelves to get all my gear.

Er...no, not as such. I do slip in a bit everything in my leads - from BB King to Hendrix to Rush. It definitely helps keep people awake! Now if I can just figure out how to play guitar with a bullwhip... :-k

The hat is an Adventurebilt "Well of the Souls" style, the bag is a WPG with a handmade leather strap and a Todd's costume buckle, the holster, belt and whip holder are also from Todd's, the jacket is an authentic lambskin Wested Raiders, and the whip, I'm sorry to say, is a "Made in Mexico" I got off of EBay. If I were to buy a real David Morgan whip I'm afraid my wife would sick a pack of angry Hovitos after me... 8-[

The hat is 100% Beaver - I had Steve go for the "Well of Souls" look as I feel it's sort of the mid point between the more curled "Raven" look and the flatter, battered look of the "Streets of Cairo" look. Here's the pics from the Adventurebilt site...

My display is a little bit like that. I've got my belt with whip holder and whip and my MKVII hanging like that. I left the holster/gun off as I thought it looked kind of odd hanging up flat on the wall. I've got my hat on the back of a chair and the jacket is in the close right now, but when it's cold enough to ware it it tends to lay in that chair that has the hat on it.

I keep meaining to build a better display hanger that has a place for the hat too. I don't want it hanging flat on the wall as it dosen't have "the look" as much if you are looking at the top of it, so I'm going to make something that displays it at about a 45 degree angle or something.

Nice hat. I was kind of looking for the "poster" style hat which that seems to be similar. The front pinch dosen't go all the way to the ribbon.

Looks really great Panama! Very very nice. Actually i always thought that Well of Souls hat was very similar (if not the same) hat from the raven bar

"W.O.Souls" has a flatter brim than "Raven," but more curl than "Cairo..."
Of course this is turning into more of a hat thread than a gear thread, so to get it back on track, has anyone ever tried lightening the WPG bag? The green seems a little too dark compared to the films...

I had my AB bashed in the Well of Souls style. It's got a slightly more relaxed Raiders pinch to it. As I've worn it over the almost year I've had it, it's begun to naturally become a little more "Cairo-ish." The WoS bash is one of my favourite Indy bashes. Here are some pics of it from when it was brand spankin' new. Click through to see more pics of the hat, and say hi to Zippy while you're there.

Very nice hat bink. Seems to be very tall (expecially from the backview). Do you have any pic while you're wearing it?

Next AB will be a Well of Souls problably :)
