West Virginia Jones says hi....

Post by West Virginia Jones »

Hello all. My name is Chris & I have finally joined this forum after visiting it for about a year now. I hail from West Virginia & am related to many a Jones, thus the name West Virginia Jones. It's good to finally be among you fine folks. Currently, my gear list includes the Mk VII bag & strap from What Price Glory, a web belt & bull whip from Lee Keppler, & the jewel of them all, a Wested leather Raiders Jacket. That may soon change, however, as I have just ordered my first Adventurebilt fedora, which is why I'm posting this in the fedora section. I went all out too. Pure beaver felt, Raiders Raven bar scene, initials inside.... I can't wait to get this hat!!! Anyhow, I thought I'd introduce myself to you & say hello. :D

Later,

Howdy, WVJ!

Normally, I don't skulk around the Fedora forum. I mainly lurk in the bullwhip area. But I saw your handle, and had to pop over. I'm in Athens, Ohio, but West-By-God-Virginia is my old stomping ground, (worked at WOWKTV 13 in Huntington, and went to Marshall for a year of college.)

In fact, I think might even know you. Do you know The Monk? (he asked in a conspiratory way, as if the Monk was somehow like the Muffin Man?) He lives on Mabert Road... ;-)

Anyway, congrats on the hat! I think Steve makes the nicest one out there, and it also happens the be the best price! I've been eyeing an Adventurebilt for a while, but too much of my money's been going to buying whips, single action revolvers, and houses lately, (mostly the houses, Morgan whips aren't even THAT expensive!)

Anyway, welcome to COW!

;-)

From Huntington, eh? Old stomping grounds. I'm originally from down river of you in Southern Ohio, and watched Channel 3 and 13 all the time!

Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of neighbors here.

Welcome Chris, I'm new to the forum as well although like you had been hanging around for quite some time in the background. Anyway, enjoy and these guys really know their stuff so ask any question and someone will know. I'm from Cambridgeshire in England, so, again, welcome from this side of the world!

It's great to hear from you all. What a small world. I work for WSAZ Channel 3 & Dan worked for the arch-enemy  WOWK Channel 13. I'm a graduate of Marshall. I graduated in 2001 from the School of Journalism, so maybe I did see you, Dan. When were you there? And Michaelson, so you are originally from southern Ohio. Again, small world. Unfortunately, that fact doesn't speak well for your driving ability. Ohio drivers are notorious around these parts. I'm sure Dan knows what I'm talking about. But perhaps, Michaelson, your driving was too good for southern Ohio which is why you chose to move on. Ahh, but I kid  . Thank you all for the warm welcome. Now join me in a salute to the Adventurebilt fedora. May it continue to live up to its wonderful reputation.

I raced in Ohio at Nelson Ledges Raceway. Come to think of it though, I don't know if any local drivers were in the race.

I'm about to post a perfectly normal image of a erm, sunflower.

If anyone happens to see a monkey,,or something...below, this could signify group hallucination.

Michaelson,

I agree. It is not nice to mess with those of us that have to wear bi-focals. We have enough problems already.

OK, so you're not the Chris I thought you were.

I got better. And just FYI, the 5:30 news is on the TV right now, and it is on WSAZ. I worked for WOWK during the dreaded "Terry Cole" years. Jumped ship just before the company came in and exorcised his presence from the station. Too late for me. That ruined me on broadcast, and I started freelancing full time, (Maverick Media and occasionally Motion Masters.)

I was at Marshall 92-93. But I was in Theater at the time.

These days I teach multimedia production at Ohio U-Lancaster.

Word of warning: Michaelson and I already get off on tangents about Southern Ohio and video production, (he does distance learning, video production down south,) at the drop of a hat, (preferably Adventurebilt.) Now there's three of us. We're doomed!

Anyway, welcome again! Post pics of that hat!

Hey there West-Virginia-Jones,

I was just out to Harpers Ferry, WV, today for a battle reenactment. Do you live near Harpers Ferry by chance...?

Well, Captain D, I've been to Harpers Ferry several times, but I don't live nearby. I live in Huntington, WV, which is right on the Ohio & Kentucky border. Harpers Ferry is a pretty far drive for me, but a great place to visit. I was just there a couple years ago for a visit.
So Michaelson & Dan, you guys are fellow video production folk.....indeed our powers have grown strong, for now there are 3. Video may have killed the radio star, but I enjoy audio production even more so than video (more freedom & creativity on a tighter budget). I'm currently producing my first CD of completely original music. It's a labor of love, & who knows if I'll ever finish it. Well, it's WAY past bed time. I work the morning shift & 3AM will be here before I know it.
you came for the gear but you'll stay for the people
I'll give a hardy amen to that, Fisk.
Goodnight all.

Hey Captain D,

I was in Harper's Ferry all day today (well, it is after midnight, so actually it was yesterday) at my sister in laws house. I was even cracking the David Morgan while I was there. I didn't even know that there was a reenactment going on up there. We were so close, and yet so far. I'll see you again at one of these summits around here, soon I am sure.

Hey there Bufflehead!

My unit and I weren't in the town of Harpers Ferry, but just right outside of it. It wasn't a "huge" battle, but fairly decent. But, yea, hope to see you and everyone else again soon at one of the summits!

Kind Regards,
Captain D
p.s- Congrats on your new whip my friend!
