hmmm. How about a 1/4 size larger? Fedora would probably be best qualified to know how much your head would potentially grow.

The Akubra is a good hat. I have the Akubra Federation Deluxe. 9 months going strong with no color fading or taper. Here it is as of a week ago.

Thank you Indy_Railok. I do not baby the hat and it has held up very well. It is well worth the money and grows more comfortable with use.

Imho, the AB has an incredible look! I am planning to get one in the near future.

Some guys can work wonders with the Akubra. It all depends on your budget and needs.

Well, for your predicament, I'd almost say go with the Akubra. However, if you do want a dead on Raiders look as discussed, then you might want to consider the rabbit AdventureBilt. The Akubra is a good hat at a great price, especially if you need to cap your expenses, but the AB rabbit is also an excellent choice if the screen accuracy is your biggest concern.

Okay, this may help a little. Here's a basic price breakdown in U.S. dollars. Shipping is extra.

Akubra Federation (Standard) - rabbit felt: $78

Akubra Federation Deluxe - "heritage" quality rabbit felt: $125

AdventureBilt - rabbit felt version: I believe C.O.W. member price is around $145

If you're going to grow out of the hat, I'd recommend a rabbit fur. Save the 100% beaver for when your head stabilizes.

As usual, I have to recommend the rabbit AB if your really looking for a Raiders hat. Fedora sells the rabbit AB for $135 to COW members. I'm not sure how much it would cost to have it shipped to Sweden. The Akubra is a fine hat also. However, the Akubra may cost you as much as a Rabbit AB by the time you add in the shipping from Australia. My dad payed $135 for his Akubra, shipping and all. For $10 more I was able to get an AB. So before you decide on a hat you may want to check out the shipping cost.

P.S. After Bashing both my AB and my dad's Akubra, I can attest to the fact that only the AB can give you the closest Raiders look. The Akubra is a great hat and some people like Prairie Jones have been able to get great results with it, but that seems to the exception, not the norm. Howevr, if its a ToD or LC look the Akubra will do fine. :)

Railok,

Again, if money is not an issue, you really can't go wrong with the rabbit AB. (Thanks, J_Weaver for remembering the C.O.W. price of $135. I couldn't remember it exactly off hand, but I knew it wasn't any more expensive than that. ) The AB will give you the best Raiders look. However, depending on how fast your melon is expanding, you might want to go with the Akubra. But on the other side of the argument, if you get an AB and it becomes too small for you to wear, you'll get a better price for it than the Akubra if you choose to sell it for a bigger size later on.

Or, you could just get a Dorfman.

If you're going to get a rabbit felt hat, Fedora did recommend that you get th Akubra over his own. I think he said that the Australian rabbit felt is superior to the rabbit felt that he uses, and is much more durable.
If you're 14 are need a fedora, I recommend the hat that has served me for nearly 2 years. Do yourself a favor and get the Akubra Federation (regular) for now, and when the time is right, go all out and buy the Adventurebilt beaver.
P.S. I got my first fedora when I was 14, too.

I have the Akubra and have gotten, what I consider, a decent Raiders bash out of it. You can't go wrong with it and the price is great. Like others, if the money isn't an issue, get the AB. But your head could easily grow. Even though I own an Akubra, I have been wanting an AB beaver. Fortunately, I'll be ordering one tomorrow. Look out Pagey. I'll have a new hat for the contest(which I will bash using mostly your recommendations)

In my case my head stretched out and did not get bigger width wise. Ive had the same akubra for a long time, and Its showing no signs of stopping. If your getting your first hat deffinatly go with an akubra.

I have decided me now.

I will go with Ghos7a55assin tip and buy a Regular Akubra. And then when the time has come, I will become a proud owner of an AB.

Glad to see my sentiments were echoed. I think it's the best move under your circumstances. You'll be plenty happy with your Fed after you get a bash in you like. They're good hats for the money. Once you wear it in a bit you'll feel it getting tighter as it begins to grow and you'll have to start wearing the hat a little higher up on your head. . Then you'll start to see the little nuances of the hat come to life.

There is a general age your head will stop growing so I'll reiterate my advice and see if you can talk to a hatter or a doctor at some point to find that out. At least, that's what I'd do.

Good luck, son. Onward
